Reaching milestones at a more advanced pace or a slower pace than the broad average. This expected pattern includes physical, communication and intellectual, and social , emotional and behavioral development. By 2 years they will know at least 200 words or more. 2-3 years children will be saying sentences and communicating successfully. Although they will still make mistakes with there grammar such as ; i eaten it, i drawed it. 3-7 year olds are developing their speech and become much more social. They ask lots of questions helping their development even more, talking in past, present and future tenses. Most children will be in a school or nursery and developing their skills in numeracy and literacy. They will be learning to read and will call on adults to help and for approval and praise. 7-12 year olds will speak a language fluently, children of multicultural familys may speak 3 or more. They will be developing there reading and writing skills, there will be some children developing quicker than others. They will be able to discuss any ideas and thinking out problems. They will have greater ability at developing there own thoughts and preferences. 12-18 years olds will know which areas they are greater in than others and be choosing their subjects for their GCSEs and A levels, depending on if the child stays at school from 16 onwards. Some children will lack confidence in some subjects and try to avoid it at all costs. Teenagers are very aware of the children around them, so will try not to show there weaknesses in any area in order to feel like they belong. 16-19 year olds are ready to leave school and will have all the skills they need to either continue in there

Through play they are able to learn their environment and it helps with learning. In the area of language development preschoolers are developing well as they learn more words and are very verbal. Children are more vocal about their surroundings, feelings, and other individuals. It is important to pay attention to speech during this time as most delays in language are noticed during this stage of development. “It is important to encourage talk at this time, and to seek advice from a specialist if any delays are suspected.” (Christina J. Groark, Stephanie K. McCarthy, Afton R. Kirk, 2014) Socially children are developing as they show interest in playing with other children. “Children are driven by the desire to be liked and place the utmost importance on friends.” (Christina J. Groark, Stephanie K. McCarthy, Afton R. Kirk, 2014) It is during this period they children learn how to share and respect other feelings. Children learn how to follow rules and know their boundaries during this stage of development. Each stage of development is essential in how well children are able to enjoy the exciting time of preschool.

Typically, by the age of 7 children are usually fluent in speaking their primary language. They generally have a vocabulary of 4000-10000 words and their reading and writing skills will further develop. They will be able to spell more accurately, write clearer, perhaps even in cursive, know about comprehension and punctuation and answer questions.
