Also, each milestone has a window or time in which children can be learned outside the frame the new milestone. They are categorized Infancy (covering birth to age two), Early

Child physical, communication and intellectual, social, emotional and behavioural development from birth to 19 years.

2.1 Explain how children and young people’s development is influenced by a range of personal factors.

This assignment is intended to provide evidence of a candidate’s knowledge and understanding of children and young people’s development birth to 19 years. By completing all tasks within the assignment, the candidate will provide evidence that meets the Learning Outcomes and assessment criteria for Unit 022, Understand Child and Young Person Development.

P1 – Describe physical, intellectual, emotional and social development for each of the life stages

Each individual child has an expected pattern of development starting from babies up to 8 years old. A development of a child is broken down into five different areas which consists of gross motor and fine motor physical development, cognitive development, communication and language development, emotional and behavioral development, neurological development and social development.

The process of child development is a very serious matter.the successful completion of developmental milestones helps the children reach their full potential(Aiger,2015) Parents should make sure that their child is developing according to the milestones for their age group. Knowledge of normal patterns of developmental process is important to help children achieve their optimal potential. (Chatterjee,2011-2017) According to the National Association for the Education of Young children(2013) “ from birth through age 5, a child’s brain undergoes its most dramatic growth.

Throughout the decades, there have been many theorists that have contributed their ideas and proposals, in regards to what they believe affects the development and growth of a child into their adult years. Three of these successful theorists include: Erik Erikson, Daniel Levinson, and George Herbert Mead. They each studied the developmental stages throughout one’s life in their own perspectives, each proposing a new and revised theory.

1.1) Development is holistic. There are many various areas of development and each area of development is individual in its own right. Even though they are individual, all of the areas of development are interlinked and they do not operate separately. To conduct activities and to partake in everyday occurrences, more than one single area of development is needed and involved in order to participate during these everyday events. It is important that as a childcare practitioner, these areas of development are recognised and understood so the services and activities we provide can be adapted and therefore, made appropriate for the child in order for them to grow and develop the necessary skills to develop to their full potential.
