To review:
The theory of the evolution by natural selection to fulfill these six criteria.
(1) They explain otherwise puzzling observations;
(2) They provide connections between otherwise disparate observations;
(3) They make predictions that can be tested; and
(4) They are heuristic, meaning that they open up new avenues of theory and experimentation. Crow added two other elements of scientific theories that he considered important on a personal, emotional level.
(5) They should be elegant, in the sense of being simple and powerful;
(6) They should have an element of surprise
Introduction:
The theory of the evolution was first formulated in 1859 and it was defined as a process through which the organism alters over a period of time due to the result of changes in the heritable traits (physical or behavioral).

- Scientifically-testable statements that can be supported or falsified by experimentation are calledarrow_forwardIn way science is limited in its ability to gain knowledge? What is a hypothesis? What is a theory? Why is a scientific law? What are methods of logical thinking are applied in science? What are the two important characteristics of a hypothesis? What types of variables are included in an experiment? What is the importance of including a control group in an experiment? What is the main difference between basic and applied science? How are the two related? Why is critiquing important in science? Why must scientists publish their work?arrow_forwardHow would you describe genetics and heredity using everyday objects? Provide a description as to how they are similar and Explain the scientific concepts or principles embodied.arrow_forward
- What did Thomas Kuhn propose? What observations were responsible for his proposal for how scienceworks? Where did he get his ideas? -philosophy of sciencearrow_forwardAs research techniques and technologies change, new ethical questions arise about whether the benefits of these techniques and procedures justify their use. Which technologies do you consider are current threats to ethical behavior in science and threaten to exploit research subjects?arrow_forwardState whether the following statements are true or false. (a). A hypothesis must be testable and fasifiable. (b). Failure to falsify a hypothesis proves that hypothesis. (C) In the context of science, a law is general and can lead to new testable hypotheses.arrow_forward
- Could someone please explain using facts on why we should not continue to explore and develop technologies to extend human life expectancy based on some of the social and ethical implications of research in genetics and genomics!arrow_forwardWhy is forming a hypothesis an important step in the scientific method? Choose the best answer. Stating a hypothesis before conducting experiments ensures that the method will follow an inductive process of reasoning. By stating a formal hypothesis, a scientist can adequately design the best control conditions for designing experiments intended to falsify the hypothesis. When a formal hypothesis is tested once, it will be accepted as theory no matter what the results of subsequent experiments suggest.arrow_forwardAs we practice being able to describe choices in Biology you will use this consolidation task to organize details about the advantages and disadvantages of biotechnologies. In an ideal world, all solutions to improving our food system would have no negative consequences. But issues in Biology involve the interaction of many different factors and changes in one factor can lead to side effects in the others. Decisions should be made by weighing the best evidence for and against a particular choice of biotechnology. Because you'll be evaluating biotechnology you will definitely want to show your understanding of changes in gene expression The examplemof biotechnology I am using is in this link https://youtu.be/VS3kcwgIwm0. Using details from this Activity as well as details from other sources, such as PubMed, describe the advantages and disadvantages of this biotechnology. As you continue your research, keep track of your sources. Ask yourself, should the biotechnology be used to help…arrow_forward

(a) the scientific credentials of the person making the claim (b) your personal beliefs and values (c) whether the study supporting the claim has been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal (d) whether the study supporting the claim meets the standards of the scientific method (e) any possible biases of the person making the claimarrow_forwardList at least five possible biases that people making scientific claims might have.arrow_forward
