The progression of Confucianism Before Confucianism during the Shang dynasty the method of reasoning was much different than it is today. The practice of “oracle bone divination” was used to guide the shang and even though this specific ritual is not practiced much today the Shang did provide the idea of a mutual relationship between the living and the dead. I believe that most religions leave some sort of lasting contribution to society and Confucianism’s will be both the culture of literate elite as well as the interdependence required for social harmony. However I believe she misinterpreted the next type of friend because she describes this friend as the “forgiving” one, in the text it says “To make friends with the upright, faithful, with the well-informed, is beneficial”(Book 16 Ch.4). I interpreted the second beneficial friend as one who continuously has faith, in other people and himself. I believe the reason she changed this in her reinterpretation is because she wants to make Confucianism more appealing and having a “faithful” friend might not resonate with people in this modern era due to the decline of religion in general. After researching Professor Yu Dan I came across an article titled “She makes Confucianism cool again” just the title would have me believe that one of her goals is to relate to today's youth this is not necessarily a bad thing but I do believe that she might have to compromise some teachings in order to present a more appealing form of
