Online School vs. Traditional School Jessica O’Brien Strayer University English 215 Professor: Robin Parks 12/4/11 Online School vs. Traditional School It seems that technology is growing, improving, and changing at an exponential rate. Technology now affects every part of our lives from the time we get up to the time we go to bed, and even as we sleep. One of the major areas that has been affected by technology is education. At one time, the only option for students to complete their education was in a traditional classroom setting. There has become a major need for non-traditional education because there has been a growth in the amount of non-traditional students that exist in our society. The advancement of technology has …show more content…
One major concern is that cheating will be increased due to there not being any proctoring or monitoring of exams. This is a very valid concern. Plagiarism is a major issue in any school, whether it is an online or a traditional classroom setting. The major concern that some people have is that plagiarism is much easier online than it is in a classroom setting. I would have to disagree with this. I have been both a student at a traditional university (Georgia State University), and I have been a student online (University of Phoenix for 2 years and now, Strayer University). If a student wants to cheat on a paper, it is just as easy to do it whether he/she is physically submitting it to a professor or electronically submitting it. The medium used for submission does not change the actual process the student takes when writing the paper. Also, cheating on an online exam is not as easy as one may expect. Most classes do not offer multiple choice online exams for the very reason that there is a concern, because it would be easy to copy and paste a question into Google or any other popular search engine. Instead, the tests usually require the student work the problem out on his/her own or write a paper or summary to show that he/she actually understands the content. I find that
Online schools versus campus schools, can one completely replace another? I’ve personally had the opportunity to experience both schools. Although they both provide the same outcome, which is a college degree of your choice of studies, there are advantages of one versus the other. I believe online schools are better to attend because of the convenience, satisfying classroom experience, and the cost and length of time to complete the degree program.
Technology has changed! In high school over the last fifty years there was no computers, smart phones, or even tablets. Today we have many different types of technology: computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, smart watches, smart televisions, smart boards, microwaves, etc. Most of the technology that we have is used in the classroom. According to the article, “In the Future, Diverse Approaches to Schooling” the author described the different types of schools Conventional, Online, Hybrid, and Broker of Instructional Experiences. Also in the article, “The Role of Technical Education”, the author described students going to a vocational school to learn hands on training. While some differences between technology in the past and technology in the present are noticeable, the similarities are pronounced.
Today, technology is advancing faster than ever. It’s incredible how humans have turned it into something more. Innovative ideas such as virtual reality, touchscreen devices, and audio helper (Alexa siri, google.) Furthermore, technology has evolved greatly for the education of students. Although technology has enhanced education, some students can’t fully utilize it if the circumstances at home prevents them from doing so. For example, Anson High School provides laptops that students can take home. With this, we can use it to our advantage to complete assignments online.
I disagree{{remove first person statemnts}} with the idea that children who live in rural and outlying areas who attend school online will not develop socialization skills like traditional classroom students, and that this face to face interaction in a classroom as an essential part of their education will be lost. There are several pros for children to attend an online school setting. Some of them are, being able to have a flexible education and a flexible schedule, being effective in the classroom, saving money, and self awareness.{{Reword and develop a clear thesis statement}}
In today’s world and society there are many ways to be educated. Education has become very popular to people who want to succeed and become something better in life. Sometimes life gets in the way and people decide to hold off on school and when they do decide to start they have the advantage to decide whether taking online classes or traditional classes on campus is best for them. High school graduates are immediately going out getting jobs and adult students are returning to school to earn a degree to better their current job prospects or make a complete career change. ( (2017). Online college vs. Traditional college. My college guide. http://mycollegeguide.org/blog/2016/07/online-college-vs-traditional-college/). Although the education may be the same there are a few differences and similarities between time management, self-discipline and participations while attending online and traditional school.
First, there is the fact that schools can only teach so many classes. This is becoming more distinct to many students across America, as budget cuts have eliminated some classes from a student’s choices. Having school online could solve that problem, as Andrew Wyrich wrote in the article, “Making a Virtual School Day Count.” Although this is true, there are other skills students are losing by doing online school. In Utah, a program was piloted in which children were provided an online preschool program in exchange for traditional preschool, as Emma Brown explains. “It’s also missing some ingredients- especially social and emotional learning- that many experts and parents consider central to the education of
There is both good and bad to online schools and every side does have a great opposition. Normally, as a person goes through school they gain many or all of the social skills needed from meeting, greeting and learning from other students. In theory it is great, although there are very many arguments that can be made against this as well. Like people that live far away from the school where it is an inconvenience to travel that far or students that have behavior issues, and also students that would like to do their schooling at home because of their very busy schedule. Online schooling would be a great way to help out the students facing all of these issues or problems.
Online schooled students do have that freedom of going at their natural learning pace, and are able to go above and beyond. Doing public school, it’s very easy to get out of focus when you are not able to catch up to everybody and the teacher is teaching you things you are not ready to be taught. Students can be really calm and stress free doing online school because they can learn at the speed that makes them happy.Learning at the student's own pace can reduce stress and can also help students do better in school because they are not always worried about getting their assignments in on time. “Instructors can develop an individualized lesson plan for each student to help him/her build the essential education skills required to achieve academic success” (Kumon). Some people think that kids need to have a certain learning pace, but not all students are capable of learning at that pace, and others cannot go
Students over the past decade have been attached to technology, such as phones, and computers, more than ever before. However, most schools are not taking advantage of the technological support that could be implemented to the students’ academic lives. The schools that have found programs to assist the students, are not that effective, because even though the students have access to the internet, and computers, the students are not aware of the endless online tools that could help them. Therefore, the education system needs to attach technology to schooling, and support for the technology being added.
Online school has some differences from a brick and mortar school, however, it also has a few similarities. Online students, like brick and mortar students, must go to classes, communicate with teachers, and turn things in before their due date. Similarly, both school systems have a full staff, reasonable breaks between classes, and textbooks. Schooling online provides students with school dances, field trips, and a student government, in the same way a brick and mortar school would. Online school isn’t held in an official building, everyone works in their own individual rooms in their house. In online schools, the pupils must work a bit harder than in brick and mortar school. One differentiation between the two types of schooling is flexibility
Technology is a major influential factor in the progression of education. Technology has allowed for many positive advances in education, allowing for more efficient, more individualized learning. The introduction of computers in education has provided countless benefits to students, and enhanced learning greatly. Students now have a much broader wealth of information in which they can get knowledge from, and more specialized learning. Education will continue to be benefited by technology as progression continues. Individualization in education should be an ultimate goal, and this can only be achieved through technology.
In 2011, I made the decision to get a college education and expand my career choices. I believe having an education is very important, if you want to be successful in your life. When looking at which school I was going to attend, I had to look at all aspects of my education. One of the first questions I asked myself was should I attend an online school or go to a traditional school? There two choices when looking to obtain a college education; the choices are online education or a traditional education. Online and traditional educations have many similarities but their differences with classroom settings, classmate interaction, and the instruction methods can be difficult for many people.
Sitting alone and staring at a computer all day sounds like the worst possible way to gain an education. Traditional schooling is better than online schooling because the students are able to gain social skills, they will be prepared for when they graduate and get a job, public schooling gives children more independence. There is a reason that traditional schools have survived all of these years and that is because it is better for the student.
Online education provides an individual with much more flexibility than the traditional education. Students that take online courses are provided with the facility to work along with carrying on their studies. Many students with great potential are not able to continue their studies just because they are not able to afford the fee and other expenses associated with education. Online education brings students back to the world of academia by providing them with flexible schedules. The students can adjust their studies according to their work schedule rather than having to adjust their work schedule according to their studies. Thus, an individual having online education is more empowered as compared to the students of traditional education.
Currently, there are a lot of inventions and new products in every sphere, and education is no exception. Instead of attending regular classes people can register for online training, which, according to many, is also effective.
