When taking an online course there are many factors that could make it good or bad. Some of the factors that make a course good are the incorporation of media from multiple sources, quick feedback from the course instructor and classmates and set deadlines that students are able to work at their own pace to meet. Some factors that make an online course bad as follows: the feeling of having busy work that may not have any visible goal, having limited involvement from the instructor or classmates, as well as the feeling that the course is set up in a way that it does not promote students making connections with one another or the instructor. Therefore hindering the ability to share thoughts. When thinking about what makes an online course good I am able to call upon many personal experiences. I have stated before that a good online course incorporates media from multiple sources; which I believe is an essential factor. Being able to have access to images, audio files, and videos assist with the learning process and it can assist those who are more visual or audio learners draw connections to the required written text. I also believe that it is important for instructor and student connections in online course. In a good …show more content…
I believe that most course work set by an instructor has purpose, however sometimes it can see as if the students are continually doing the same activity which will make them feel as if the activity has lost its purpose. An online course with a wide variety of activities will combat this. A bad online class also does not promote instructor and student involvement. I believe that students should be able to be familiarized with one another as well as the professor to promote conversation and the sharing for ideas and other information. Unfortunately, not all classes are designed in a way students can communicate
Some people doubt the efficiency of online courses since they think it’s harder to focus on online courses such as videos than normal courses. There is a report published from The U.S. Department of Educational and Riesinger (2017) states “this study said that classes which include online components showed better learning outcomes than those with purely face-to-face instruction.” It means that it’s doesn’t matter whether people learn from online or not. If students really want to learn, they will find some ways or try to adapt different types of courses. On the other hand, there are other people think online courses are individual class which is lack of communication. But, this question is gradually solved by platform or chatroom that students can discuss or ask questions. Therefore, online courses have more advantages than
Online classes are best for people who feel they can produce better work in an isolated environment with no instructor or classmates directly in front of them. This also benefits more for people with full time jobs or other commitments that would prevent them from going to the classroom. Now the downside to this is that you have more temptation to be distracted from doing your work. Since you do practically all your assignments online, it's real easy to go right onto social media sites such as Facebook and see what everyone else is doing. If you plan on doing an online based program, you have to have a lot of self-control and will power to keep from going onto other sites not related to your
If you have the drive to succeed, you can get just as much out of the online education as you can from a normal classroom.
Online courses have started within the past 30 years as a means of learning. With increases in Internet use, many U.S. schools offer online classes. Because of the main disparities amid online course and face to face instruction, numerous questions have been brought forth in regard to the quality of online courses. This research will help American college students to understand the difference between online classes and face-to-face courses, and give them an idea that how effective that online classes are. Therefore, the leading research question of this study is what advantages and disadvantages of
Contrary, to what others have stated about online college classes, I found that there are many advantages and disadvantages for those who choose to advance in their career. Online college courses have become worldwide allowing individuals like me to make their own decisions on how to manage their college courses. Before I made a decision to take college courses online I had to be sure I was up for the challenge. Online college classes require the same amount of commitment as the traditional colleges. As I made the decision to attend online college courses I also explore every element of life factors and different skill techniques to help me succeed in my college classes.
As we continue in the future, online classes are becoming more and more popular. Students are able to work and continue education with more flexibility. The most common problem with the online class is communication, as well as learning is not always successful. In a recent article by Maria Konnikova, Ziming Liu, a professor at San Jose State University suggests, “On screen, people tended to browse and scan, to look for keywords, and to read in a less linear, more selective fashion. On the page, they tended to concentrate more on following the text.”(Konnikova. Par. 3). Perhaps instead of just an online class, an instructor combines the two. Some parts of the class, such as video lectures should be presented online, and other things like homework or work be done in class.
A lot of students prefer the comfort of learning on their own, rather than with their peers, which is one of the biggest benefits of online education. Due to the fact that all teacher are not the same, different teaching methods and speeds, onlines classes gives the student the advantage to go at their own pace and time to digest the material. Chapters and assignments are emailed to the student, for which are given a guideline to be completed. Most will agree that having to not fight traffic and look for parking spots are two less stressors you don't have to deal while taking online courses. Online education has a plethora of subjects that students can enroll in to further their education that some colleges or universities might not
The biggest concern about taking this online course is who I will learn good, or understand the materials in good way. Sometimes I must understand what professor said, so I take recorded of the class, but in this situation, I just repeat the lecture to understand very well, and I hope I do
With the increasing rate of online education, many people do not see the problem of this type of learning, since some schools already have these programs available. If a student enrolls in relatively demanding online classes, the results remain nearly the same as those of a student attending a traditional school. Basing an argument on only a few weeks of experience does not make a person qualified to have trustworthy opinion on a specific topic. Social problems, time management issues and the lack of curiosity all diminish if the student attends the correct online schooling program. Online schooling deserves more respect from others who do not recognize the similarities it has with a traditional
Opinions and Questions: Online courses do not give the same interaction that traditional classses do. You will not be able to ask questions easily and you won't hear the opinions of others in the class. While these aren't exactly deal-breakers, they can make you miss out on important topics that aren't talked about otherwise.
There are others, like myself, who feel that online learning is better. The supporters of this back their claim by stating that online classes can be more beneficial for teachers and students. For example, fewer distractions in a classroom like other students disrupting class. Students can come into class late after the teacher has already started class and cause a disruption or talk during the class. With online classes the student can control their environment. Also, a teacher can provide in writing just the basic information a student needs for an assignment. This way there is less of a chance for the student to get confused on the assignment when the topic
Online courses require a lot of self-discipline and most of the students who are enrolled in a degree course do not benefit from online courses. Institutes may complement their general coursework with a specialised online course with an industry expert. So, online should be a supplement to university education, especially used to develop niche skills.
The positive of online classes is being able to access the class in any free time. Most online classes though, require work to be turned in on certain days and times. Which makes it harder for students to remember when assignments need to be done. The pleasure of the instructor reading/lecturing the textbook material out loud won’t be there. It
People can take online courses these days. It is a chance for most people to get online courses on their own place. Students have the capacity to look over many diverse programs that would help them with their needs. Nowadays, most of the programs are available online from each department like business, management, and information technology. Additionally, students can browse different sorts of degree. The online courses have lower costs since they do not buy textbooks; they can downloads all assignments and all different materials that are required for their classes. Another benefit of these online classes is saving time since students do not have to attend classes, so they might have more time to do their assignments and study. Online classes evacuate the anxiety by permitting learners to study when it is helpful for most learners would like to study at different time. Likewise, students at schools have to take their exams and quizzes on the day their instructor planned for , but
Andrew Simoncelli once said, “Students who take online classes must be motivated, independent learners.” This is relevant because independence and motivation is what it takes to succeed in an online course. Online learning will not only expand what students learn, but will also bring a number of positive changes in the way students are taught. Courses online have changed everyone’s look at learning all over the world. It allows more opportunities for observers to learn online rather than learning in class. Another affirmative of taking an online course is flexibility and convenience. Students who would like to experience some of these ideas should look into an online class!
