Chinese art is one of the oldest continuous traditions in the world. China has a reoccurring theme of different art forms which includes pottery, jade, and bronze castings. Along with that is also painting, calligraphy, poetry, architecture and sculpture. Taoism also called (Daoism) and Confucianism philosophies are indigenous to China’s history and have been influenced deeply on Chinese art.
I will begin with Taoism (Daoism) is a philosophical tradition of Chinese culture. It is based on the writings of Lao Zi in which it emphasizes living in harmony of Tao. Tao means way; as in a path and also a means of doing: the way of nature. Taoism promotes things like simplicity, spontaneity, tranquility, nonconformity. Yin and yang are the most known concepts used in Taoism. Yin and yang are two halves that creates a duality forming a whole. They are complete when together due to the interconnection and interdependence of two opposite forces. If they split it messes up the balance and equilibrium of their wholeness. Yin and yang are encountered in our everyday lives like for an example night and day. Night would be yin and day would yang, another is female and male, yin is female and yang is male. A final one would be negative and positive, yin would be positive and negative would be yang. The symbol for yin and yang is called the Taiji.
