Capstone Assignment Paper
I am writing this paper to let you know what benefits I have learneded from class. We do a lot of the things for class like the online discussions, speech presentations and class activities. They have all prepared me for what I need to do. They teach me what a speech is about and how to make one. But when you make a speech the most important is the techniques or the content you used.
This class has been very good for me because the content informed me about three important concepts. The first one is the Visualize Yourself Giving an Effective Speech to prepare yourself. The second one is the Gain Attention and Interest for your introduction. The third one is the Motivated Sequence for the organization.
Let me elaborate

Because when I say what I want, I have to know what it is and what it is looking like. Then I can tell the waiter and they will know what I’m talking about. If I am ready when I order, then they can be ready for when they give it to me. The visualizing is the first step.
Next is called Gain Attention and Interest from Chapter 11. You can’t be dull and have to have an attention grabber. Grabbers are calling attention material. It is defined in the book as “the part of the introduction designed to capture audience interest” ((page 200 from the book)). They have to want to listen, hear the rest of your

Everywhere I go I have to get people to do like me and follow. Now I know the steps so when I tell my sister to leave my room this is what I say. First, I say something so she notices and I tell her I need her to leave. Then I tell her why and what happens if she does. When she gets up I walk her to the door and close it behind her. I do every step and it works for me.
My favorite part out of online discussions, speech presentations and class activities are the online discussions. When you post the discussion, you can reply to the other classmates. That is very good for us because then we can learn from everybody, not just the teacher. If we have a question I can ask somebody or they can ask me. Sometimes it can be hard for when you have to do a lot writing or research for the answer. Or maybe the question has too many parts for it to do. But I know that if I do it, then I can learn many things. Not only for discussions, but also for class work and
In conclusion, all indicators point toward active participation in online discussion a major factor in the final grade a student may receive. All stakeholders, including the facilitator, need to be actively involved at a high cognitive level. This activity increases trust that must be built within a community of learners.
The article "Read-only participants: a case for student communication in online learning" by L. Nagel, A.S. Blignaut and J.C. Cronje, appears in Interactive Learning Environments. The article asserts that communication and active participation in online class increases the chance of the student’s success in an online class. Immediate feedback from peers and instructors and social interaction built into the online discussions contribute to learning (Collins, A., Brown, J.S., & Holum, A., 1991).

During the practicum, one detailed assesses the organization as well as collaborate with the mentor and intraprofessionals. The major issue with the organization, Pacific Alliance Medical Center (PAMC), is the patient safety issue, fall. The capstone project topic would be Fall Reduction and Prevention. PAMC is a small community-based healthcare facility with only total 138 beds. There were total 72 falls in 2015 and 35 falls in 2016. Moreover, in the first quarter of 2017, 11 falls had occurred and just one week before my practicum, 3 falls happened within one week (these would be counted in the second quarter of 2017). The facility has spent ample expenditure in updating the new technological

This class aims to address public speaking and I definitely feel more confident when speaking in front of audiences, especially since I now know the #1 rule of public speaking - KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. I learned about topics in writing and speaking that I did not even know existed even though i saw and heard them everyday. Rhetorical Devices such as Anaphora and Chiasmus are perfect examples of this. Incorporating story into speaking and writing is something that is crucial and I really realized this throughout the semester. This helped me improve my speaking and writing abilities. Even though I despised waking up early for this class, I definitely feel like I gained vast knowledge on speaking and writing. I learned the importance of giving readers a roadmap for them to follow. I noticed a big difference which was also reflected in my grade from my informative speech to my persuasive speech. I was definitely more clear and confident by my second speech. I learned how to make eye contact with my audience while speaking. This class helped me gain valuable insight into my topic - Poverty In India. I found that there was so much more to my topic than just plain facts. In terms of the learning outcomes for this class, I feel i managed to achieve the vast majority of

Generally speaking, the class discussion and fishbowl assignment were really helpful reminders regarding the upcoming speech. The class discussion was a reminder of the readings content, such as the focus on body language, organizational patterns, and
During the group discussions it helped me earn feedback from my different peers in the class and view the different thoughts and ideas that my fellow classmates had. When writing an essay, having different classmates review my work and give feedback helped me learn more about myself and other people. It helped me learn that people will always have a different point of view when it comes to writing, and I also learned that peer reviews are a precise and beneficial way of showing different ideas and showing mistakes that I made in my essay. This also contributed to my overall improvements of
Hector although a young man he only had a few close friends. One of the reasons being that because his family were immigrants, his family had moved a lot in search of greener pasture. Searching for greener pasture being one of the number one reasons people migrate to in Hector's family which was moving from Mexico to the United States made him lose a lot of the friends he had growing up. Migration is considered as one of the major life events which often involves profound changes including a disruption of well-established relationships. It challenges the adaptive capacity of the families collectively and each of their members individually (Roebers et Schneider, 1999 P 125). Although it is common that when a lot of people migrate to other countries they automatically lose the ties they had and are forced to start afresh, it is often hard for most people to adjust.
Lucas opens this chapter with a simple statement that speaks volumes. It’s “First impressions are important” (Lucas, 2012, pg. 186). This could not be truer, first impressions can make or break your performance in speeches, and through life as well. If the speaker don’t hook their audience in the first minutes, it becomes a lost effort. Lucas gives us some methods on how to get the audience’s attention then keep it. The methods are relate the topic to the audience, state the importance of your topic, startle the audience, arouse the curiosity of the audience, question the audience, begin with a quote or tell a story. Any of these methods will guarantee a hooked and interested audience. The next step in creating a jaw dropping opening, is to reveal the topic. This may seem like a moot point, but Lucas just uses it as a reminder. Because no one wants to have to figure out what the speech is about. If the speech go on without making the topic clear, the audience may become confused and not able to fully enjoy the speech. The third objective Lucas gives us to establish a good opening is to establish credibility and
However, advocates of classroom learning believe the online method isolates the students from one another as well as their professor minimizing the overall value of taking the course. They also claim that students learn better when working together with their instructor and their fellow classmates. Students learn better when they are given the opportunity to ask questions, join in class discussions, and they move the process of learning forward through their participation. Face-to-face advocates firmly believe that this kind of interaction is not possible over the Internet; and for many types of education, e-learning will never meet the potential of live human interaction in the classroom. An article in the New York Times titled, “Second Thoughts on Online Education,” backs up the points made above. A recent research published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, comes to the conclusion; “A rush to online education
