Chapter 48.3, Problem 2SB
Summary Introduction

To review:

The mechanism that makes the urine more concentrated as it passes through the end part of the kidney tubule.

Introduction:

A nephron is defined as the functional part of the kidney that functions to filter the blood and removes wastes from the blood producing urine. The nephron comprises of Bowman’s capsule, glomerulus (they are called renal corpuscle together), proximal convoluted tubule (PCT), descending ducts, loop of Henle, distal convoluted tubule (DCT), ascending duct, and collecting duct, which have different functions.

The wastes dissolved in water are removed from the blood and enter the nephron when the blood passes through the Bowman’s capsule. The salt, water, and ions, either enter the nephron or are removed from its different parts, which increases the concentration of these substances in urine.
