I could not define my way of thinking as any ideology because I grew up listening to very different perspectives. I am an American citizen, but I grew up in Mexico and I have always been hearing both sides of the country’s problem. My mom supports a more liberal ideology and my father has ended up giving up on hope and rather decides to vote for the PRD which seems to be the kind of party that would turn Mexico into a country like Cuba. Even though most of the times my parents don’t like any of the candidates, my parents still vote because they both know that not voting would be like giving away their personal vote. I am certainly not an activist because unfortunately I am just not into attending protests or organizing marches. I am not a …show more content…
First we can recognize that liberals affirm that a woman has the right to decide what to do with her body. They lean on the argument that “a fetus in not a human life”, so in consequence the fetus does not have separate individual rights. On the contrary, conservatives affirm that life begins at conception. Second, talking about death penalty, liberals believe this is cruel and inhumane and that they should abolish this form of punishment. Conservatives believe that death penalty is the right measure to punish those who have taken away the life of an innocent person. Thirdly concerning the economy, liberals support a market system in which the government regulates everything. They strongly believe that they should avoid the creation of “big businesses”. Conservatives on the other hand, believe in free market, capitalism, and they support the idea of private enterprises. This free markets produce more economic growth, more jobs and higher standards of living. Fourth, talking about energy resources, liberals know oil is a scarce resource. They believe that the government should pay for the searching of alternative options for energy production. Conservatives, knowing that oil, coal, and gas are good sources of energy, are determined to keep drilling and keep searching on land and sea not caring about the harm they cause to
Political ideology within a state is established by examining individual ideas about politics and how they are related (Shively, 2014). Even though, not every political ideas are equal, however, they bear some sort of relationship or resemblance. Generally within a state, “ideologies are usually determine by intellectual structure from which one can derive number of disparate policy positions” (Shively, 2014, p. 25).
To begin with, economic issue is the most prominent topic that both liberals and conservatives have opposing views on. Liberals believe that a government should handle the economy in order for it to grow. Conversely, conservatives believe in the system of free market, where individuals decide the price, the products to produce, how to produce, and for whom to produce. The reason why conservatives believe that a government should not get involved in the economy is that, the government cannot determine all of the society’s needs, and because there is
Conservatives are very supportive for individuals that are in the higher class, while liberals support the lower class individuals in society. Conservatives and Liberals have completely different views from one another. I personally favor liberalist views due to the fact they favor equality within our society. While conservatives feel as though within a society everyone should be responsible for themselves they don’t believe in aid to mankind. In our society we can achieve and do so much more if everyone as a whole worked together and cared about the individual next to them. The world that we live in today would but much stronger, there would be less poverty and more equality in the working class. Due
In the world of economics, liberals and conservatives couldn’t be more different. Liberals support a market where the government regulates the economy. The feel as though Americans need the government to protect its people from the big businesses. The government is motivated by public interest and is needed to level the playing field. Conservatives, on the other
Modern liberalism and modern conservatism are both extremely centrist ideologies, “In fact, US conservatism comes out of classical liberalism so the modern versions of both ideologies share deep philosophical roots” (Guide, pg. 1). These roots date back to the 17th century, extending into the early 20th century. To fully understand American politics, it is a key to understand the dominant ideologies. It is also crucial to analyze the differences and similarities between these two ideologies. This paper will first examine the origins and tenants of classical liberalism, an ideology in which both modern liberalism and modern conservatism evolved. It will later discuss the
The liberal views tend to favor public assistance programs, cut in military spending, a progressive tax system and government regulation is such as areas as the food and drug industry, occupational safety and health, housing, transportation and energy. They believed in a mixed economy, one that is capitalist free market with limited government regulation and intervention is seen as ideal. Unlike their counterparts, conservatives in the United States traditional favor policies that responds to strong national defense, deregulation of business and industry and a tax cut on capital gains and inheritances. “They often staunch oppose social spending on the grounds that give away programs reward sloth and indolence. (Magstadt, 23)” They tend to be for policies that are pro government
Liberals and conservatives view issues in different ways one can be for it while the other on is against it. For example they have different views on education, HealthCare, taxes, welfare and many more. Liberals believe that in education public schools are the best way to educate students the believe money should be taking away to be focused on raising teacher salaries and reducing class
When it comes to the structure of society, liberals tend to be more open to equal opportunities and equality and, like to have society more in control of decisions that directly affect them. For example, according to Giulia Squadrin in her essay “Difference Between Conservatives and Liberals”, liberals strongly believe in freedom of choice with the belief that “Women have the right to decide what happens to their own body.” To liberals this belief that people have the right to there own body should not be alarming and is a given. Liberals believe people are not properties and need to be allowed to make his or her own choices. On the other hand, conservatives believe that the right to abortion is not for women to have.
Over the past couple of years, I have watched numerous political debates, from social issues to economic policies. I have watched debates between the quick-speaking Ben Shapiro, and the bullish Cenk Uygur. Cenk always makes a statement, and when given counter-evidence, his only reply is “Google it”. Shapiro throws out three or even four pieces of evidence for every point he makes. When Cenk gets upset, he lashes out at the crowd; Shapiro remains level-headed and only attacks the argument.
In this case, it is the responsibility of the government to eliminate social problems, protect human rights and improve the lifestyles of the citizens. Most importantly, liberal ideas focus purely on the role of government to improve lives of citizens. Conservatives emphasize the need to empower people to achieve their goals. In this case, the government is supposed to provide an enabling environment to promote personal development. Characteristics of Conservative system of governance are free markets, individual liberty, personal responsibility and traditional American values (Dye & MacManus, 2015).
Classical liberal seems to be those who holds high regard for the concept of natural rights, but might still believe in economic controls imposed by a government for various reasons (environmental concerns, poverty concerns, etc.), while libertarians tend to believe in government that exists solely for the protection of individual rights with little to no government control of economic activity. Conservatives usually have a religious or strong inclination towards social order and control than classical liberals or libertarians.
On the issue of the economy, conservatives generally favor the free market system and competitive capitalism. They believe that free markets produce economic growth and more jobs than those where the government is regulating the economy. Liberals, on the other hand, believe that the government should protect the people against big businesses, and that a market system where the government regulates the economy is best. Typically, they believe the government is needed to level the playing field.
What is an activist? The short answer is You, if you're reading this because you've just done one more thing that another hasn't and that’s seek out information, the next thing you have to do is share what you've learned.
The liberal viewpoint originates from Hobbs original thought that government is a necessity. People are ignorant and cannot be trusted to do the right thing. Humans are natural born sinners. They have to be scared into doing what is right. Without a government, there will be caouse and anarchy. The conservative viewpoint originates from Lock’s original thought that the government that governs least governs best. If you educate the masses, they will do what is right. Government does not need to be involved in the everyday lives of people. Government should supervise from a distance. An example could be formed from “The Devine Right to Rule.” People were threatened with Hell. As a result of this, people followed what the King said. Hobbs, as
Three of the biggest ideologies in the world, reflect upon Marxist socialism, social democracy, and modern conservatism. Over the course of history, there has been one which has stood out, and succeeded. Research shows how social democracy and modern conservatism will rank close together throughout the world. Both have their pros and cons. However, a large majority of the world will agree that Marxist socialism does not benefit anybody, but those in charge.
