What does it mean to be a liberal? What does it mean to be conservative? Being a liberal means you believe in liberalism which means you support a more active role of the government; it is defined by Webster dictionary as the belief in the value of social and political change in order to achieve progress. On the other hand being a conservative means you believe in conservatism which means you support a greater reliance on the free market; however, it is also defined by Webster dictionary as a belief in the value of established and traditional practices in politics and society. Although there is confusion and misconception of what these people are Liberals and conservatives actually have many differences far more than any similarities. Liberals and conservatives have different views on issues and political philosophies, but they both share a similarity; they both believe in hierarchies as an organizing principle of society. Liberals and conservatives view issues in different ways one can be for it while the other on is against it. For example they have different views on education, HealthCare, taxes, welfare and many more. That doesn’t mean that they both are democratic because they aren’t, it just means that they both believe that the government is for the people and by the people. Meaning that the leaders of the country are elected by the people. The word democratic government originates from the roman meaning that power comes from the people.
