Conservatives & Liberals Conservatives and Liberals are two different political parties that have similarities, and differences. According to the Student News Daily website, Liberals believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all. It is the duty of the government to get rid of social problems and to protect civil liberties, and individual and human rights. Conservatives believe “in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense.” Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve problems. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems. Abortion is …show more content…
“Oil drilling should be increased both on land and at sea.” “Increased domestic production creates lower prices and less dependence on other countries for oil.” “Support increased production of nuclear energy.” “Wind and solar sources will never provide plentiful, affordable sources of power.” Gun control is another issue between Conservatives and Liberals. According to the Student News Daily website, Liberals believe the Second amendment does not give citizens the right to keep and bare arms, but only allows for the state to keep a militia (National Guard). “Individuals do not need guns for protection; it is the role of local and federal government to protect the people through law enforcement agencies and the military.” “Additional gun control laws are necessary to stop gun control laws are necessary to stop gun violence and limit the ability of criminals to obtain guns.” Also Conservatives believe that the second amendment gives citizens the right to keep and bare arms. “Individuals have the right to defend themselves.” “There are too many gun control laws; additional laws will not lower gun crime rates.” “What is needed is enforcement of current laws.” “Gun control laws do not prevent criminals from obtaining guns.” “More guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens means less crime.” Conservatives and Liberals have many differences and some similarities. They have disagreement on abortion and gun control laws. They agree on Energy standards, in ways of increasing
“On Political Labels” explains the evolution of the words: liberal and conservative. He goes into detail that back in the 19th century and early 20th century a liberal was one that believed in less regulation and less government in your personal
After studying the differences between liberalism and conservatism, it is differentiate the two ideologies. During the colonial era, liberals supported Democracy over monarchy and wanted freedom and rights. Conservatives, wanted to keep the monarchy. Based on these ideas, all Americans are liberal because they are in favor of freedom and rights. However, with the new ideas, now Liberals believe that the government and laws need to change for the new times.
The main purpose of the article by Matt Motyl titled, “Liberals and conservatives are (geographically) dividing” is that political parties’ affiliations are dividing the U.S. This can be seen through the locations many Americans live such as liberals going to more urban areas as opposed to the conservatives to go to less populated areas in rural states (Motyl, 2014). The author uses the Ideological Enclavement Theory to explain the division of people in the U.S through ideological-segregated enclaves (Motyl, 2014).
Liberal means open to new ideas and willing to discard traditional or old fashion values; this is how most democrats view politics. Conservative on the other hand means the complete opposite and tends to hold on to traditions; this is how many republicans view our government. Democrats believe in equality, “Democrats believe that we're greater together than we are on our own—that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules,"(democrats.org). Republicans tend to want to help people get off welfare and other government funds, “Prosperity is the product of self-discipline, work, savings, and investment by individual Americans, but it is not an end in
Gun Control Liberals believe the Second Amendment does not give citizens the right to keep and bear arms. They are in favor of gun control laws like background checks or waiting periods before buying a gun; banning automatic weapons; and disallowing concealed weapons. Basically, Individuals do not need guns for protection. Timothy P.
To be a conservative in the modern world would consist of me having to spend money a lot less and having more jobs. They think the government should make taxes less. "Less government involvement will drive increased investment and profits from both companies and high-income individuals."(Jeffery Glen) This is the way to budget and the economy will be number one. Liberals always know what is best to control the economy. They know how to keep citizens from spend so much money. I think to be a liberal, we should do more for the lower class and less fortunate. They really to raise taxes so that higher-income earners can pay more.
Politically, conservatives promote a smaller government, fewer regulations, and services to be established by the free market. On the other hand, liberals suggest having more regulations and services such as universal healthcare. Economically, conservatives want the government to tax less and spend less, and democrats say more services are better even at the cost of raising taxes. Conservatives oppose stem cell research and gay marriage, and liberals promote them. Liberals think restrictions/regulations should be placed on the 2nd amendment, and conservatives support the right to bear
From gun control to health care to immigration and religion, none are the same. Liberals support a universal health care system, and that health care is a basic right. Conservatives believe it is a privilege and should remain privatized. Socialized healthcare means everyone will receive the same poor-quality healthcare that the government provides. Liberals support legal immigration, but also believe that if immigrants are here illegally they should still receive financial aid for college and that their families should be given visas to come to the U.S. Conservatives believe in legal immigration, but do not support illegal immigration. They do not believe those who came here illegally should have the same rights as those who did. Liberals believe in separation of church and state, and that religion has no place in government. Conservatives believe in preventing the government from establishing a national church, but believe that God should be allowed to be acknowledged in schools and government
Liberals are a group of people. Consisting of mainly middle-class business men. Liberals wanted most power in their country to go towards political people. Conservatives however, are kind of opposite. Conservatives are wealthy landowners. They want to keep traditional leaders of Europe. So by these two groups they both had different ideas on who should have power because of what their interests were and how they lived.
The argument for gun control goes something like this: modern conservatives believe there should not be a restriction on how many guns a person can own. They also believe in the right to carry a concealed weapon, as guns are a way to protect
In comparable, Jeweish is convervative and focuses on their obligations and duties whereas American conservatism are very similar to the liberalism focuses more on their rights. However these rights often varies. For instances when it comes to religious freedom, it's often uphold by conservatives than by liberals. However the rights-based debated is still the same. This lead to, most of the liberals cause successfully cast as a “right” will surely make progess with the conservatives. One of the example is the spike of conversatives supports in gay marriages. From the aspect of duties, both convervatives and liberals are not eager to perform their duties to defend their country as they were supposed to. This have often been
The liberal and conservative ideologies are the two most popular political ideologies of our democratic society today. A political ideology is more or less a systematic set of ideas that perform four functions for those who hold true to that specific ideology. Liberals see themselves as champions of individual liberty who work to create or preserve an open and tolerant society, a society whose members are free to pursue their own ideas and interests with as little interference as possible. Conservatives share a desire to conserve something, usually the traditions or customary way of life in their societies. The way the two of these ideologies relate to the triadic concept of freedom is entirely different and the same goes for how the two relate to the four functions of an ideology.
The American government is divided into two essential concepts that control the political power, regulations, and opinions of its citizens. These concepts are Liberalism and Conservatism, and each holds different premise of political power. Liberals demand academic freedom and oppose the government control of press, arts, and ideas. Conservatives demand material freedom and oppose the government control of trade, business, and wealth. Liberals believe that men’s intelligence can reach to the furthest place of the universe, while Conservatives believe men have freedom to go anywhere on Earth but their minds should be restricted to keep their morality. From here, the difference between these two concepts is their ideologies. As people get older, they constantly make up their minds about political issues, and decide which political orientation fit their backgrounds and situations. For instance, religion and education are the influential factors that influence one’s decision to be either Liberal or Conservative. In fact, I wasn’t raised in the political environment of both Liberalism and Conservatism. But the way I see things work and how our social issues are handled by the government, I consider myself to be a Liberal.
Being an American is one of the many characteristics the people of this nation share; however there are different values each one holds, and the two being focused on are Liberal and Conservative. This year is the best time to look into these values due to the Presidential Elections nominees putting their names on the ballot. Looking into each values one will get a sense of what they stand for; such as Liberals who value equality among humans and in the workforce, feminism and are more progressive. Couple examples of Liberal values, unions in the work place where everyone is treated fairly, or the latest about the wage increase for fast food workers. Then there are the Conservatives who value tradition, law and order and free market. Conservatives
First we can recognize that liberals affirm that a woman has the right to decide what to do with her body. They lean on the argument that “a fetus in not a human life”, so in consequence the fetus does not have separate individual rights. On the contrary, conservatives affirm that life begins at conception. Second, talking about death penalty, liberals believe this is cruel and inhumane and that they should abolish this form of punishment. Conservatives believe that death penalty is the right measure to punish those who have taken away the life of an innocent person. Thirdly concerning the economy, liberals support a market system in which the government regulates everything. They strongly believe that they should avoid the creation of “big businesses”. Conservatives on the other hand, believe in free market, capitalism, and they support the idea of private enterprises. This free markets produce more economic growth, more jobs and higher standards of living. Fourth, talking about energy resources, liberals know oil is a scarce resource. They believe that the government should pay for the searching of alternative options for energy production. Conservatives, knowing that oil, coal, and gas are good sources of energy, are determined to keep drilling and keep searching on land and sea not caring about the harm they cause to
