Concrete slabs are used to provide a rigid floor system which requires negligible maintenance and reduce the requirement of material and labor. Floor slabs are usually considered as the extension of the foundation wall and footing.
Concrete slab is called as on-grade floor system because they are only used as a floor surface and don’t support the weight of the roof and walls.
The minimum thickness of concrete slab recommended by IRC is 90 mm.
