Concept explainers
Write a letter to Person D briefly explaining the randomness of the survey that makes the survey scientific.
Explanation of Solution
Dear Person D,
Population can be generalized from the sample, only if the sample is the representative of the population. The intension of the survey is to get the information about the population. Hence, choosing a representative sample without randomness is not possible. The random sample is the representative of the population. The larger the sample size, the closer the sample statistics to its population parameter value. The same cannot be the case for non-random samples. In other words, the best valid scientific conclusions from samples can be drawn, if the samples are random.
Thus, the randomness in Country A’s community survey makes the survey scientific.
Sincerely,
A student of statistics.
