Interpretation: types of process.
Concept introduction: The four primary types of processes for producing goods and services are' '5" Projects, Job Shop Process, Flow Shop Process, and Continuous Flow Process.
Projects are process for producing unique products for a specific time and budget allotted.
- The job Shop process is organized around general-purpose equipment which is used to produced customized parts for different customers.
- Flow shop processes are organized around a fixed sequence of activities and process steps to produce a limited variety of similar products.
Finally, the Continuous Flow process is about producing highly standardized products with very large batches and volumes.
Explanation of Solution
A) iPads
iPads are produced in large volumes and sold across the world. There are only a few variants of the product. The manufacturer presumably buys all the parts from the supplier and assembles it in its facility. Therefore, a fixed sequence of activities and process steps is followed. All these attributes suggest that the type of the process Is: Flow shop process.
B) Wedding
Wedding has fixed dates for start and completion and every wedding is a unique outcome due to the specific needs of the families involved. The entire event can be subdivided into smaller tasks or milestones which need to be coordinated and completed to realize the outcome within time and budget. All these attributes match with Project
C. Paper
The product is highly standardized. There are very few variants existing. The batch sized for producing a variant is huge and so is the volume of production. The process Is extremely standardized and generally not very adaptive to customization. Therefore, the type of continuous process
D. Tax preparation
The service requires a similar set of resources (Including human skills and competence). These resources are equivalent to the general-purpose equipment. However, the service is customized based on the individualized requirement of the clients. The appropriate process type is the job shop process.

- PROBLEM-3) The Sales&Operations (S&OP) process is designed to produce a plan that all departmentswithin the organization, as well as suppliers to the organization, can work. The process is also sometimes referred toas sales, inventory, and operations planning (SIOP) to emphasize the important role that inventory can play as abuffer between sales planning and operations planning. The S&OP department of the XYZ company, that producesKLM products, estimates the sales over the next six years in thousands of packages will be as follows: Assume that each worker stays on the job for at least one year and XYZ currently has eight workers. XYZ estimatesthat they will have 600000 packages on hand at the end of the current year. Assume that, on average, eachworker is paid TL 60000 per year and is responsible for producing 80000 packages. Inventory costs have beenestimated to be 20 KRS per package per year, and shortages are not allowed. XYZ estimates that it costs TL 2500for each…arrow_forwardDevelopment and Production Plan Maintaining your output level in order to meet your customers' demands is a necessary skill. As a result, the following questions must be addressed:• What quantity and how frequently should my goods be produced? (This would depend on sales turnover)• What raw material is used in production?• Is the raw material available?• Do I need anyone to assist in the production (you may want to be a bit more specific here)?• If special skills are needed, how can they be acquired and retained?• What are the total production costs? In order to estimate the cost of production you would need to do the following:• Identify all the inputs needed to produce and sell.• Calculate the cost of the production of a specific quantity that you can manage.• Identify production inputs under the following headings:Fixed cost: Costs that will be incurred regardless of the level of production.Variable Costs: Costs that are directly related to the level of production. The more goods…arrow_forwardExplain how can minimization be performed with simplex methods ?arrow_forward
