"Placebo-controlled" means that one of the treatments is given to subjects as the real treatment, but has no actual effect. It is meant to test the effectiveness of the actual treatment.
"Double-blind" means that neither researchers nor test subjects knew which treatment was the actual treatment and which was the placebo.
