Concept introduction
Cytoplasm is the gel-like substance that contains nucleoid region. It appears grainy under the microscope due to the presence of ribosomes. The liquid portion present in the cytoplasm is known as cytosol. H.A. Lardy in 1965 introduced it for the first time. It is an intracellular fluid that contains water, ions, suspended substances, carbohydrates, wastes, lipids, and proteins.
