Pain relief was accomplished with some very heavy doses of medication and the doctors set about trying to find out the source of his pain. Initially, Mike’s pain began with a dull, intermittent discomfort in his flank and in the lumbar region of his back. Then it intensified across his abdomen as he was drinking coffee with his friend. It ran down the middle of his abdomen to his genitalia and to the inner aspect of his thigh. He began to sweat profusely, felt nauseous, and was faint. He teetered on the edge of shock.
