Introduction:
Proto-oncogenes refer to genes that code for proteins which are responsible for proliferation. In proto-oncogenes, mutations result in increased protein expression and hyperactivity (gain-of-function and /or loss-of- regulation). This type of mutated gene is referred to as oncogene.
