Introduction:
Taste buds are structures containing cells that detect particular molecules in food. Human have about 9000 taste buds, whereas other mammals like pigs and rabbits can have double that number. The bumps on our tongue are papillae that collect food molecules in depressions called taste pores. These taste pores contain many taste buds that include the sensory receptor cells along with supporting cells.
