Chapter 25.1, Problem 1R
Summary Introduction

To review:

The findings that led to the establishment of bacteria and archaea as separate domains.

Introduction:

All living organisms in the universe share various characters with each other. Despite the fact, there are many differences in their characters, which form the diversity of life. Nowadays, scientists have differentiated organisms with the help of genome sequencing. This genome sequencing first proved that there are two main divisions of life—bacteria and archaea. These two divisions are a part of prokaryotes.

What features are similar between Bacteria and Archaea?
Why were Archaea originally thought to be simply unusual forms of Bacteria? What lines of evidence showed this domain to form a distinct branch on the tree of life?
