The human body has several chemical barriers for the invasive pathogenic microorganisms. Some cationic peptides are formed by various human cells that possess antimicrobial activity, such peptides are called defensins. The production of alpha and beta-defensins with a particular size and net charge help the body to cope with numerous microorganisms that can invade the lungs, the gastrointestinal, and urogenital tract.
