Summary Introduction

To review:

The division of autonomic nervous system which increases digestive activity, causes ejaculation, stimulates adrenal medulla to release its hormone, decreases heart rate, dilates bronchioles, and increases blood pressure.

Introduction:

The ANS (autonomic nervous system) is comprised of two units that are the PNS (parasympathetic nervous system) and SNS (sympathetic nervous system). ANS is involuntary control of the body tissues. The SNS prepares for activity, whereas, the PNS facilitates conservation of energy.

Describe the effect of parasympathetic innervation on each visceral organ innervated by the division of the ANS, especially the heart, blood vessels, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, adrenal medulla, and external genitalia.
In the basal ganglia, what is the role of the substantia nigra? the substantia nigra blocks GABA release onto the internal segment of the globus pallidus the substantia nigra inhibits the direct pathway the substantia nigra releases dopamine on the internal segment of the globus pallidus the substantia nigra releases dopamine onto the caudate and putamen   In the basal ganglia, which of the following occurs? disinhibition results in the inhibition of glutamate onto the thalamus the release of GABA onto the internal segment of the globus pallidus is excitatory In the indirect pathway, disinhibition blocks glutamate release from the subthalamic nucleus In the direct pathway, disinhibition blocks GABA release onto the thalamus
