The percentage of solar radiation that is absorbed by the atmosphere and the percentage of solar radiation that is absorbed by Earth’s surface.
Introduction:
Solar radiation is defined as the energy that is transmitted by the Sun. The solar radiation can be absorbed, transmitted, or reflected. The process by which the solar radiations are absorbed by the object is termed as absorption.
Explanation of Solution
The sun produces 100% solar radiation. Out of this 100%, around 20 % of the solar radiation is absorbed by the various layers of the atmosphere. Around 50% of the solar radiation is absorbed by the Earth’s surface. However, the rest 30% is reflected back by the atmosphere to space by the process of reflection and scattering.
Thus, the percentage of solar radiation that is absorbed by the atmosphere is 20%, and the percentage of solar radiation that is absorbed by Earth’s surface is 50%.
