Concept introduction:

Claisen-Schmidt condensation is the condensation reaction in which one carbonyl compound has a α carbon atom while the other carbonyl compound has no α carbon.  The sequence of reaction is such that first the compound with no α carbon is treated with a base and then the compound with α carbon is added slowly.
