The harmonics in an electrical system refers to the current and the voltage at a frequency is the multiple of fundamental power frequency. Harmonic currents are developed by the non-linear loads that are connected to the system. When the wave form of the current that comes out from the system is not same as the wave form of the supply voltage, the load is said to be non-linear.

The frequency of nth harmonic is given by the relation.

  fn=nf

The frequency of second harmonic is given by the relation.

  f2=2f
