The Census Bureau has a very direct, explicit way it chooses to define family for census counting. To the Bureau, family consists of people legally bound to each other, or related by bloodline. The chapter goes much further in its idea of who and what a family encompasses. The chapter examines family as people who are bound together in at least one of several ways including biologically, legally, or emotionally.
If you consider any of these “other” types of people to be family, then your definition is broader than that used by the Census.
