The hormones are the chemical messengers that are secreted by the endocrine glands. These hormones diffuse from the interstitial fluid and are traveled through the bloodstream to the target cells where they execute their action. The target cells are the cells that contain specific receptors for the hormones where other cells do not contain such receptors. By binding to their receptors, the hormones execute their action on the target cells.
