- Although the normal distribution is a reasonable input distribution in many situations, it does have two potential drawbacks: (1) it allows negative values, even though they may be extremely improbable, and (2) it is a symmetric distribution. Many situations are modelled better with a distribution that allows only positive values and is skewed to the right. Two of these that have been used in many real applications are the gamma and lognormal distributions. @RISK enables you to generate observations from each of these distributions. The @RISK function for the gamma distribution is RISKGAMMA, and it takes two arguments, as in =RISKGAMMA(3,10). The first argument, which must be positive, determines the shape. The smaller it is, the more skewed the distribution is to the right; the larger it is, the more symmetric the distribution is. The second argument determines the scale, in the sense that the product of it and the first argument equals the mean of the distribution. (The mean in this example is 30.) Also, the product of the second argument and the square root of the first argument is the standard deviation of the distribution. (In this example, it is 3(10=17.32.) The @RISK function for the lognormal distribution is RISKLOGNORM. It has two arguments, as in =RISKLOGNORM(40,10). These arguments are the mean and standard deviation of the distribution. Rework Example 10.2 for the following demand distributions. Do the simulated outputs have any different qualitative properties with these skewed distributions than with the triangular distribution used in the example? a. Gamma distribution with parameters 2 and 85 b. Gamma distribution with parameters 5 and 35 c. - Rajan wanted a radio from Jacky's. It appears that Rajan is particularly interested in purchasing a Radio from the inexpensive retailer's sales manager for consumer electronics. He tells Jacky, the salesperson at the inexpensive store where he thinks he'll get the best deal, that his old radio died and he wants to listen to his favourite tunes. He wants a replacement radio as quickly as possible. In three and a half weeks, Rajan's favourite model will be 10% off.He suspects Rajan won't wait and will find another job. Jacky will earn less on the lowered price. He thinks that telling Rajan of the sale makes little sense. When Jacky tells Rajan that the radio set he wants is no longer available and won't be for another week, Rajan is enraged. Fearing losing the business, Jacky begs his sales manager, Michelle, to speed up delivery. Michelle says it's impossible and suggests Jacky tell Rajan the store can get the set in 24 hours and sell him the demo model. Michelle says the sample is new…Consider Bruno who manages an underwriting team in an insurance firm. Recently, the management of Bruno’s firm informed him of their decision to create a new risk assessment team, consisting of data scientists with machine learning expertise, and reduce the size of Bruno’s underwriting team. Bruno’s underwriting team will now work with the new risk assessment team in order to determine whether to provide insurance to applicants Use the model of a firm’s technology choice and graphically illustrate the management’s restructuring decision in a diagram with isocost curves. Your diagram should have the amount of human intelligence on the horizontal axis and the amount of artificial intelligence on the vertical axis. Fully label your diagram. Note that there are no actual numbers given in this question: you may make them up or simply use appropriate notations. Briefly explain the key information of your diagram.) Creative Sports Design (CSD) manufactures a standard-size racket and an oversize racket. The firm’s rackets are extremely light due to the use of a magnesium-graphite alloy that wasinvented by the firm’s founder. Each standard-size racket uses 0.125 kilograms of the alloy andeach oversize racket uses 0.4 kilograms; over the next two-week production period only 80kilograms of the alloy are available. Each standard-size racket uses 10 minutes of manufacturingtime and each oversize racket uses 12 minutes. The profit contributions are $10 for eachstandard-size racket and $15 for each oversize racket, and 40 hours of manufacturing time areavailable each week. Management specified that at least 20% of the total production must be thestandard-size racket. How many rackets of each type should CSD manufacture over the next twoweeks to maximize the total profit contribution? Assume that because of the unique nature oftheir products, CSD can sell as many rackets as they can produce.

However, the neighborhood where Martin lives mostly includes newly constructed luxury homes. Why might Martin's home increase in value? Based on the principle of substitution, the value of Martin's house will equal the value of the newly constructed homes in the neighborhood. ○ The value of Martin's home will decrease due to the new competition in the neighborhood. Based on the principle of regression, the newly constructed homes in the neighborhood will increase the home values of the entire neighborhood. Based on the principle of progression, the newly constructed homes in the neighborhood will increase the home values of the entire neighborhood.
