The following presentation describes what a letter is and outlines various types of letters. Also included in the presentation is the various rhetorical elements that can be used to help strengthen one’s quality of writing. Instead of focusing on the different types of writing styles they will encounter in college and the workforce, most of the writing instruction students receive in their underclassman English courses at Carrizo Springs High School is primarily focused on preparation for the English Language Arts Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Written Composition test, which has standards that are different than the outcomes they will be expected to accomplish in their dual credit English class and future college writing courses. Therefore, there must be a method implemented at Carrizo Springs High School and Southwest Texas Junior College to help students become more successful in dual credit English before they even step foot in that class. Students must understand that how they perform in that class will have an effect on their
Council Bill 20-409 establishes adequacy by addressing the social concern of marijuana possession in small amounts for personal use. Prior to the bill, individuals were charged with a criminal offense which remains on their permanent record. Having said violation on a permanent record potentially has negative effects on employment status and housing options. The bill, which decriminalizes small amounts of marijuana now provides for individuals caught in possession the opportunity for a self-sufficient life.

I have developed some bad habits after being in the military for 19 years by communicating in a military format and speech. These bad habit drives me to miss the mark when writing in a technical and military-like format that does not take my audience into consideration. I have trouble with tone and voice because of the number of military years and conditioning under my belt. This class helped bring me back to the basics in communicating to important elements in writing. There were several elements of writing that I developed throughout this
As the Fall 2017 term comes to end, I look back on what I have accomplished in this class. English 102 – Composition II was one of the most challenging and toughest class I have taken at UW-Stout, but feel as though it has helped me to improve my writing skills. Even before the semester started the feeling of anxiety had taken over, as writing has never been my strongest skill, but stayed positive and confident I would be successful. Much to my surprise, my instructor, Michael Critchfield quickly addressed that this class would not be easy and amazingly changed my views of writing throughout the entire semester.
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there’s always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
Writing influences the way humans communicate. Good writing skills are essential in the working world and it’s important for our own self. The love for writing creative stories that engage the reader personally feels like an impossible task. After thirteen years of English I’ve realized that English does not come easy to me. It’s important to note that my writing skills have improved over the years. Going into my first year of college, I was nervous. I knew that my writing needed improvement. During my first semester of college, I was able to take the WAC 101 class. This class not only improved my writing, but it also encouraged me to start reading again. I look at reading as a task instead of a hobby, but I know that it can progress toward something that I like to do on my free time. WAC 101 is a class that helps develop a student’s writing skills. To measure the progress, outcomes in different areas of writing are reflected upon.
In writing it’s important to have an understanding of what you’re trying to convey for your audience in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again, analyzing one’s audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when choosing the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as the reader. In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this online English course. Each writing assignment
Writing is one of the four basic skills to be taught for the students. It is a way for students to express their idea and opinion. The important of writing can be seen in daily activities when they need to write short texts such as memos, invitation letters, sympathy notes, brochure, article, business letters, applications letter and many others. Through writing students can transfer their experiences and knowledge to others. So, they should be able to produce sentences and develop it into paragraphs and essays. It is active thinking process of the students to plan, arrange and express idea in order the text could be understood by the readers. A good writing helps avoid misunderstanding between the writer’s idea and the reader’s opinion.
Of the many expectations I have of English 1101, three are very important to me: improving my vocabulary, communication skills, and the ability to enhance my writing skills. During college the most fundamental class will be English. English will help me with all subjects in my curriculum, by building better communication skills, and will help with me with everyday life. In today's world of increased communications, particularly of a digital nature, writing skills are an important aspect of expression on a personal, professional and educational level. People send written communications more frequently and quickly than ever in the form of text messages, emails and social media updates.
