Shopping at the mall and hanging out with friends is much more important than doing homework. Why are students required to do homework anyway? It’s a waste of time so they should not be required to do homework. Homework is causing stress, which is resulting in students spending less quality time with their families as well as with their friends. It is also causing students to feel burned out and to not be engaged with school as they should be. Even though students need to learn how to manage their time more effectively, including budgeting time to complete homework assignments, they should not be required to do homework. Students should not be required to do homework because it stresses out students.

I believe that students in school shouldn’t have homework on weekends. Students spend enough time in school. Shouldn’t we get a break? On the weekends, I want to be able to spend time with my family, participate with my swim team, and spend as much free time and relaxing time as I can. My topic is homework. Students should not have homework on the weekends because it is our only time for family, students have extracurriculars, and we are already doing school work on the weekdays.

People think that homework should be banned because kids always have homework on the weekends. The teachers also give you homework so you don’t have to waste time in your house. In my opinion, I think kids should not have homework. So I’m going to tell you reasons why we shouldn’t have homework.

What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was contrived to prepare students and help them engage them in the content being taught. Homework also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate about if homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing students to be engaged in the content taught and delivers time management skills for the future.

Schools have a tremendous job that the American society expects them to uphold and keep on standard. That job is educating our youth to be the next leaders and figures in generations to come. This requires schools to adapt and incorporate appropriate techniques and procedures that will in the end provide kids the best education possible. However one of those tools, homework, has taken a decline when it comes to the minds of young children in the elementary schools of the L.A. county school district. According to an Edutopia research study, “young students are still developing study habits like concentration and self-regulation” (Terada ,1) translating into the loss of homework’s value and validity within the context of children. There needs to be a clear instruction to outline the specifics of limiting the number of hours and the types of homework assignments a child in the grades 1st-4th has to work on outside of class, while at the same time supplementing this policy by providing a diversified after school program able to reach any child’s needs. This educational policy will in turn revamp the educational value embedded in homework from the perspectives of children and set them on a path to be successful all while maintaining the youthfulness of being a child.

The value of homework varies, most high school students don’t mind doing it, but most students find it stressful themselves. Homework has been a subject of debate over the years varying among students and educators within different grade levels. Even though most students find homework stressful, it’s easy for others who focused on the lesson and understand most of it. Most kids who do homework claim that it usually takes about an hour or 2 just to finish depending on classes and how much work is given. Other students including myself have been under pressure due to amount of work assigned by their teachers, grades, and how long it will take to complete.

Everyone knows that graded homework can be overwhelming at any age. Homework is being introduced too soon into children’s academic careers. It is clear that the government is pushing it more. I believe that graded homework should be more of a choice not another chore. In truth, should students have homework?

In 2008 the MetLife American Teacher series polled students, teachers, and parents on their feelings and thoughts about homework and the results were as follows; one-third of parents rated the quality of homework given as fair or poor, one-quarter of students say that they as if their homework is busywork and unrelated to what they were learning in class (MetLife). But, one of the leading reasons that people support homework in elementary levels is because they believe it can kick-start healthy and even necessary habits. These habits include; time-management, study skills, independent working, etc. It is unrealistic to expect students to gain important life skills from poorly created and unrealistic homework.

Teachers assign too much homework. Kids shouldn't have to spend hours of their time on busy work.

Have you ever forgotten to turn in your homework? If you have, you already know the consequences, but if you haven’t you’re in luck. Every teacher gives homework at some point in the school year. Nobody likes homework, it’s basically bringing school to your house, but you have to do it. Even your favorite classes give homework, math, science, history, english, literature, and religion. All teachers, all classes, whether it’s a science worksheet, history notes, or as easy as watching a ten minute video for grammar. No matter what you should get it done, but if you don’t you will wish you did. If you don’t turn in your homework your grades will drop, you will get detention, and you will get grounded.

When teachers require their students to complete loads of homework by a certain date this leaves the students with little to no time to participate in after school activities such as: sports, clubs, band, church groups, and several other events. A survey conducted by a researcher from Stanford University indicated that when students spend too much time on their homework they are not reaching the necessary developmental needs or reaching life skills needed for their age group (Parker). When students are so caught up on completing their homework they are more likely to “drop activities, not see friends or family, and not pursue hobbies they enjoy” (Parker). It is not healthy for students to be spending all their time outside of school working on homework. In some ways, it seems as if teachers do not realize that most of their students participate in other activities outside of school and that in some cases they are dedicated to these activities more than they are their homework. There is one school, Rocky River High School, in North Carolina that believes that the pressure of school and the homework that comes with it can be detrimental to some students. Out of the 162 students surveyed at Rocky River High School 148 of these students participate in activities outside of school and over 50% of these students

There should not be any homework. children go to school from 8:10-3:10 that is seven hours a day of non-freedom. We are told what to do and how to do it all day. When kids are at home,kids should not have to worry about doing homework.Kids should be able to relax and spend time with family. When typed in google, claims about homework, it gives a lot of facts about when kids get home and are worried about homework.

The majority of students have, at one point or another, wished for less homework. For some student’s homework is not a big issue but for other students it can take hours and even days to do all their homework. That wasted time could be used for enjoyment or learning life skills instead of homework. Nine in ten high school students reported feeling stressed about homework (Galloway 4). So, should students get less homework? Yes, students should receive less homework because it improves their well-being by reducing stress and its impacts on health, increasing leisure time, and showing that homework does not affect grades significantly.
