When someone makes the decision to go to college this future student will also have to decide if they would like to attend traditional or online classes. To make this decision it is best to compare and contrast online versus traditional classes.
Starting with traditional classes because these are the most familiar types of classes. Taking traditional classes means that a student must be in class two to three times a week at a certain time for a hour or more. These types of classes are great if a student has free time but if a student has a full time job, children, or just a bust schedule then traditional classes may not be the best decision. For example, a student that goes to work from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday and has children to take care of would loose money as well as precious time with family if traditional classes were chosen. Equally important is the fact that when a student chooses traditional classes there are other students to rely on. If a student does not understand a subject then maybe a classmate can help. Additionally, if a student is stressed out about a test or upcoming assignment then to make those feelings go away it can help to

Unlike traditional classes, online classes allow for more flexibility. For instance, the student talked about in paragraph two that works from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday and has to take care of children, would still be able to go to work and not loose quite as much precious family time if the student chooses online classes. This student could make the decision to study on lunch break or after the children are asleep. The lack of classmates can be just as much a blessing as having them sometimes. Every once in a while classmates can be a distraction and cause another student not to hear something that the instructor said. For this reason online classes are a great option since a student taking online classes can simply study away from other
The Internet has also changed the way students learn. Online classes are more readily available compared to several years ago. By means of online classes more adult students pursuing higher education are able to make that dream become a reality. Students attending online classes offer different viewpoints with fellow students and are able to communicate without feeling that a correct answer needs to be given.
Learning in a traditional classroom requires you to get up and get ready by a certain time. You must find a sitter, if needed, as well as find a job that will work around you school schedule. If you have a doctor appointment or need to do something important, you must miss class for that. You have to find the extra time to do your makeup work and anything that you missed. Learning in an online setting, lets you work on the everyday task. If you have a job that requires you to work long hours; you can come home after a day of work and go online to start your class. You have the options to work ahead a little on the online course, compared to a traditional class where you can only work on assignments handed out at the time. Online classes give
In today’s world and society there are many ways to be educated. Education has become very popular to people who want to succeed and become something better in life. Sometimes life gets in the way and people decide to hold off on school and when they do decide to start they have the advantage to decide whether taking online classes or traditional classes on campus is best for them. High school graduates are immediately going out getting jobs and adult students are returning to school to earn a degree to better their current job prospects or make a complete career change. ( (2017). Online college vs. Traditional college. My college guide. http://mycollegeguide.org/blog/2016/07/online-college-vs-traditional-college/). Although the education may be the same there are a few differences and similarities between time management, self-discipline and participations while attending online and traditional school.
This being me first year taking online classes I can truly understand why other students my age opted to take online classes. Online classes fit into the busy schedules of many high school and college students today. The classes are also available in a variety of programs and courses so that you never have to step into a college classroom. Additionally, online classes cost tremendously less than attending a traditional college.
There are lots of people who wants to go to college but can’t because they have other responsibilities. Some people fail to realize that college and high school is very different. For example, the teacher is not going to pressure you to come to class. In college you are more independent than you were in high school. Some people says online classes are hard other say they are easy. There are those who likes to attend on campus to talk to the teacher afterwards. Others who suggest online classes for less face-to-face interaction. Some have other things to tend too. For example, someone might have to fix their car or just want a day off. In my opinion I would have online classes are better than traditional classes.
I feel that the education you receive from online learning is the same material that is taught in the traditional way. This material is just presented in a way that is better for modern students. Traditional learners however, may also lack the skills to be effective learners. For students who take traditional classes over online classes may lack motivation to be independent learners. In spite of these differences it is safe to assume that both sides want students to enjoy and excel in school no matter if it is traditional or online. Both sides are obviously concerned about the importance of education. Otherwise the argument over whether traditional or online learning is better would not be a debatable issue.
Although online classes do offer options to those that choose to continue their education, there are a number of fundamental downfalls that prevent it from truly becoming a new standard of learning. I fully agree with what Kiefer points out with regards to the major deficits within her essay. Based on my personal experiences, I only classes becoming more and more difficult as I get older with other responsibilities and the pressures to take care of myself and my family.
Online classes allow students to create a flexible schedule for students with jobs and busy home lives and can
For flexibility, we realized that the student would have flexible classes. They would be able to work whenever they needed to wherever they needed to. For example, if an online student had a job, family, or both, they would be able to pursue their degree while also taking care of their family or working. They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection. My last category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. To begin, there are actually more interactions with students when they take an online class because they need to interact with the teacher and other students more. Online classes also teach students discipline and time management skills since the work load is done on their own time. There are numerous reasons for online classes; my class came up with copious reasons and then I categorized the reasons into four key components: money, opportunities, flexibility, and student experiences.
I have been fortunate enough to attend college in a traditional classroom setting as well as an online setting; I can say for my academic journey the online setting better suited my learning type. When I graduated high school I went to a traditional university, I did not do well and ended withdrawing and failing classes. I attended an online university a few years later and found that it was a lot more conducive to my learning style.
Becoming an online student is not always an easy decision, but sometimes the best decision. A lot of people have very busy lives such as having a family, full-time job and/or other priorities. I myself had to tend to family and a full- time job, so online classes were the best decision for me. I was initially a traditional student, so I became accustomed to a classroom setting. Within making that tough decision, I did not know that my approach to learning needed to be different from a traditional student.
All and all, with online learning having great flexibility and the traditional classroom having immediate interaction with the professor and students, which ever one an individual chooses to learn each one has their perks to get the best education for future enhancement. I personally chose online because of my busy schedule and I think it was the best decision to make to further my education.
A student runs into a lot of different costs because of a traditional class. One of the largest is the gas bill to and from school every day. With an online class, there is no gas bill. The classroom is your home or other place you choose to do your classwork. While Internet connectivity may cost a montly fee at home, this is far less than gas for many students, and a computer is far cheaper than a car and insurance. Another financial burden is class fees. My nephew attends a local community college and he had to pay almost 500 dollars in class fees this semester alone. There are no fees for online classes. There is no grass fee, or student lounge fee, there is only tuition and books. Cost effectiveness is only one of the many reasons to go online.
Online classes are making it easier for people to go to college. If it was not for online classes students who do not live near a college or have busy schedules could not get a degree. I am receiving my degree completely online. I choose to take online classes because I work in Cape Vincent and Clayton and live in Adams. Living on campus would not be an option for me and commuting would be a nightmare. I do not think that students who receive their degree online should receive a different degree than someone who receives it taking face-to-face classes. Degree programs require students to take all of the same classes whether they are taken face-to-face or online. The learning outcome from these classes is the same.
Students now have the option of not only obtaining their education through one of the many online based colleges, but they can also choose from many local colleges as well. Students will receive the same value of an education online just as they would in a traditional on-campus school. Online schools have their advantages and disadvantages and it is a relatively new environment so it is best to consider both the pros and the cons of taking online courses.
