While observing my second five hours, the classroom does not always run smoothly, 2ND grade students may not always see eye to eye. After finishing their math lesson for the day and putting away their materials and getting ready for math, Mrs. Ryan asked three students to please collect their whiteboards from their group and put them back where they belong. As each student did as they were told to do so, a boy placed the whiteboards how he thought they should look. However, a girl walked over with her groups and corrected the way they were. He yelled at the girl and told her to sit down and get away from the boards. She ran away in tears and sat down at her desk. As Mrs. Ryan realized what was happening she took order of her classroom and pulled
It was playtime for the class. My first real experience with classroom management was when a little boy by the name of Tranell did not want to share the toy phone with his classmate who was a girl. I went up to Tranell and ask him “Can she have a turn with the phone?”. He nodded his head and let her have the phone for a little while. But as soon as my back was turned he snatched the phone back from her and she began crying. During this time, I told his teacher about and she told him to give it back to her. Tranell gave it to her, but sudden he began crying. He loved the toy phone so much that he literally would take it and keep in his pocket. When play time was over, I informed Mrs. Gain, Mrs. Pace classroom helper of what Tranell had done. She told me that he takes and keeps the toy phone in his pocket all the time and she will let Mrs. Pace know about it. After playtime it was time for them to go the
At 1:00 p.m. I entered into Evoline C. West Elementary school on Thursday, July 12 2012 for an interview with Mrs. Yolanda Lawrence. As I entered the classroom, I was greeted by Mrs. Lawrence, the head teacher in this classroom. Mrs. Lawrence has no assistant at this present because of it being in the summer. After I entered into the classroom, the entire class welcomed me with “hello Ms. Flournoy”. It made my day to see all of those smiley faces greeting me. This was a 2nd grade classroom which consisted of 17 students of which 8 were girls and 9 were boys. This interview and observation was a total of 2
Mrs. Collins addressed the 6th grade Science class with the most uplifting positive attitude that anyone could have. Every day she came to class she always had candy and snacks sitting on her desk for students to enjoy when they were on their best behavior or if students participated. Everyone insisted on behaving and participating just so they could get a treat. One day Mrs. Collins called on a young boy whose name is Mark, but everyone else addressed him by meanie mark. Mrs. Collins asked Mark if he would like to come to the front of the class and demonstrate the Mentos and coca cola project. Mark did not say anything the first time. The second time she asked he murmured something, no one could not hear what he said. He set in the far back left corner of the classroom by himself. No one wanted to sit next to Mark for he intimidated everyone that he came across. He always wore black and he never spoke to anyone no matter how nice they were and he always had his head down. Mark was a loner. Furthermore
A significant event that happened today involved a child who was demonstrating stubbornness. The teacher had an activity planned for me, which dealt with number recognition. Essentially, the teacher provided instructions, directing me to present a number from 1-10, where then the child would count the number of bear figurines to match the given number. I came across one child who was being difficult and did not want to wait her turn while I was assisting the other children. She kept peeking her head through the door asking if it was her turn, as I kept telling her that I would call her when it was. Finally, when it got to her turn, I called her into the back room and told her to count six bears. Instead, she told me she did not want to and that she wanted
My eighth grade classroom is set in a Jr-Sr. High school and is located in the Jr. High hallway, in the rear of the high school. I have thirty-two student desks situated in rows and two small tables at the front of my room used for paper pick up. My desk and computer are in the back corner of the room. The students all have their own Chromebooks and I have a desktop computer as well as a Samsung Tablet. Google Classroom is used daily as well as many other applications suited for 1:1 schools. I also have a projector hanging from the ceiling and two large white boards located on the front and side walls of my classroom. The class that I will be focusing on in this paper is made up of 26 students, 15 boys and 11 girls. One student with learning disabilities, another is an ELL student. This class meets for 55 minutes.
I got the chance to see three grade levels during the observation. The first grade I got to see was third grade and they were at p.e. and I even though I only got to observe the third grades for 15 minutes, I learned that it’s important that the kids get up and move every day. Also, that by the kids playing they learn how to work with each other. Then when it was time for the kids to go the teacher blew a whistle and all the kids ran and got into two lines. When the teacher saw that everyone was in line, he started walking while the kids followed in an orderly manner to go to lunch. The second grade level I got to see was fourth grade. I only got to stay in the class for 20 minutes but during that time the kids were
After lunch Miss B asked me to help all students to get ready for PE. When all students changed their clothes I asked them to line up. Some of students pushed each other and there was a gap between them. First, I put them in a line order, so that friends were not near each other, and the sneaky kids were in the middle of the line. If they have no one to talk to they can’t say much!
"This is the third time this month you two have been sent to my office for ignoring instructions from teachers, for causing havoc within your entire year group and now a physical fight. Every time you two have been called your sisters have been pulled out of their lessons which is not fair of them as this is their most important year during school. Michael, you will stay with your sister during her lessons, your teachers will give you the work you will be required to do. Rosie the same to you, you will be staying with your sister during her lessons and you will be given the work by your original teacher" the head master said, me and Alaska looked at each other in shock.
All of the children at the daycare were playing, waiting for their parents to arrive and pick them up. The teacher assistant was fairly new, and still getting used to the schedule and rules all the children and staff had to follow. Several of the kids’ parents seemed to come rather late, so the new assistant decided it would be fine for the kids to play with the daycare toys until they were ready leave. The youngest pupil was four, and the oldest had just turned seven, so all the children were undeniably messy and careless during almost all of their lives. The assistant’s excused themselves temporarily, the newbie could definitely handle the remaining children and if not it could help teach and improve her skills.
The guidance counselor stated that the other three teacher could not attend the meeting however they provided a report about Shonquasia’s grades and behavior in each of their class. Ms. Witkers stated, that the other teaches reported that Shonquasia is not doing well in their class, and that she is often caught sleeping and that she has an aggressive attitude toward the teacher and her peers. MS. Witkers stated, that the other teacher reported that Shonquasia is not complete assignment and homework. RORC teacher reported that Shonquasia is fail his class because she refuse to wear her uniform. Ms. Witkers, recommended that Shonquasia should be encourage to participate in her class, and to be more respectful to other. Ms. Witkers suggested that consequences for behavior and accountability should be reinforced in the classroom and at home. Per mom Shonquasia does not like to be told what to do and that Shonquasia is capable of getting better grades, however she do not want to put in the work required to get better grades. Per mom Shonquasia likes to do her own thing and it is very difficult for her to punish Shonquasia for bad behavior. Per mom, since last CFT meeting Shonquasia s behavior at home and in school has not
The bell had just rang, school was out. “Olivia, Mrs. Larsson calls.” Olivia is in 6th grade. Her teacher Mrs. Larsson talks to her every day after school telling her the same thing over and over. “You been misbehaving at lunch today”! But this time it was different. “Olivia it's your turn to stay after school and clean the room”. Olivia hated cleaning the room after school, she always ended up staying too late. “ Now run along and tell your mother, I don’t want her to worry like she did last time!” “Ok Mrs. Larsson.” I reply, I run to call my mom but she didn't answer, and my dad was at work so I couldn't call him. “Yup my mom knows.” I say, but she really didn't. “Ok then, well I am going to go home so behave yourself!” Mrs. Larsson says
During this observation I observed a young girl who we will call “Kayla” she was working on her daily journal. I asked the teacher if it would be okay if I asked “Kayla” to tell me a story about her journal page and then have her act it out with a few friends the teacher was actually very excited about this. So when I asked “Kayla” to tell me a story about the time she and her family went to the beach she was super excited I told her I was going to write it down so we could act it out later.
So we packed are things into our backpack and proceed to go the library even though I was still mad about the fact that I got in trouble, but, spending the rest of the school day there makes a difference. After we arrived there she told us to pick out a book of our choosing and do a poster about the most favorite moment that we thought was the best. So we all went to pick out the book that we wanted and the story that I picked was called Goosebumps: Night of the living dummies by R.l Stein. To me this book had a lot of memorable moments so I choose the introduction of the dummy to be the poster. Everything went great until I decided to go find a new marker because the ink was starting to fade and went to go get it from the basket. I got there I started to find the marker I needed, I grabbed a pair of scissors to move them away from the marker I needed, when it happened. Someone's poster got stabbed and had a hole in it. That person started to blame me because I had scissors in my hand and the teacher came around and ask about what happen. As soon as she heard what happened, she was convinced that I did and gave me another week's worth of picking up trash. I got so angry I started to scream back at the teacher saying that none this was my fault and didn't do anything to the point that threw scissors at a computer monitor breaking it on impact.
Principal Hecktor looked at me, I was more ashamed than I had ever been in my entire life. “Please explain to me what happened. If you tell me the truth, the punishment will not be as harsh.” He said to me. The family pictures on his wall reminded me of my family. They looked so happy, unlike how mine would be once they found out what I had done. I looked up, tears in my eyes, and said; “Yesterday, I sold my ADHD medicine to other students, and you have no idea how sorry I am. I know I deserve the worst punishment, this is the most horrible thing I have ever done.” I looked down at the burgundy carpet, my tears dropping to my lap.
My practicum took place on September 7,2016 from nine thirty to ten thirty. The practicum took place at Impact Early College High School in Baytown. The class I observed was Ms. Nguyen’s class of juniors and seniors that contained twenty students, seven boys and thirteen girls. The class appeared to be alert and ready to learn. Since this was their second period class they already had enough time to shake off their fatigue. The subject was Pre-Calculous and the topic was operations of functions. Students entered the classroom in a calm manner and socialized until it was time to start class. The teacher instructed the students to take their seats and take five minutes to write their assignments into their academic calendar. The teacher went
