Legislation and Guidelines for England and Wales
To continue further development at Riverglade House, a small residential care home I am checking and outlining all the policies and procedures relating to health, safety and security and how they influence health and social care settings.
The Health and Safety Work Act 1974 (HASAWA) is an act that secures the health, safety and welfare of people at work. This protects anyone at work from any risks to their health or safety in connection with the working environment. This act will protect employees, service users and the public from any work activities. All employers, employees, trainees, self-employed, manufactures, suppliers, designers and importers of work equipment have a duty to follow and

It requires anyone who is dealing with food to treat food in a committed, controlled and mannered way so it doesn’t harm any human who consumes it. To protect any human from getting harmed by the food they consume it is important that you do not include or remove anything from the food, do not treat the food in a way which can be damaging the consumer’s health, ensure that the food we serve or sell is meeting those consumers’ standards and make sure that the food is clearly labelled, advertised and presented in a way that is not wrong or in a way that it will not mislead consumers and buyers. This act will make sure all the food that is consumed is safe and eatable for humans and it will not cause them any harm or problems. An example relating to a health and social care setting is using different coloured chopping boards. This will prevent the spread of bacteria and any diseases and will reduce the risk of E.coli and food …show more content…
All health and social care settings have different policies and procedures. Policies are simple and clear statements on how your company or organisation aims to conduct its service or business. Procedures explain how each policy is put in action. All procedures have an outline on who will do what, what steps need to be taken and which forms or documents need to be used. In every care setting all policies and procedures will be different but they share the same role in guiding your health and social care setting. Employees usually sign a contract before starting a new job which clearly states that you will follow all the policies and procedures put in place. Staff members who do not follow policies and procedures should be given more and helpful training and in worse cases should be sacked because no service user should be put at risk because of one employee. Most policies and procedures include safe guarding, cleaning, food safety, reporting of accidents, fire evacuation and security of premises. Safeguarding is important because people who require safeguarding are often elderly and weak. They often either suffer from a physical or learning disability and they are at a risk of suffering from abuse. Safeguarding also makes sure that all social care service users are given the right support and services they require. They make sure that support and services are delivered in a high quality and
It is vital that as an organisation we evaluate our policies and improve and develop them as
How legislation, policies and procedures relate to health, safety and security in a health and social care setting and how legislation, policies and procedures promote safety of individuals in a health and social care setting.
In this essay I will be analysing the communication and interpersonal interaction that took place in various sectors such one to one interaction, group interaction and how effective these skills and other elements in the health and social care setting such as the environment was being demonstrated.
* Conduct a literature review (journals; text book, etc.) on the safe guarding vulnerable individuals (i.e. children; disabled; elderely) policy within health and social care settings and summarize its aims and objectives
Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility, and includes measures to prevent or minimise the potential for abuse occurring. Protection is considered a statutory responsibility in response to individual cases where risk of harm has been identified
M1- Discuss how policies and procedures help children, young people and their families whilst the child is being looked after.
There are many things which can affect access to complementary therapies. The ones I will be explaining are:
A health service is a service that provides care and is under the NHS. For examples hospitals or a G.P. They provide treatments but also prevent illnesses through health promotions. A social care service is about providing support to individuals to help them get by and who ever needs it such as emotional support or practical support with daily living tasks.
A list of the key legislation relating to health and safety in a social care setting-
1. Identify legislation relating to general health and safety in a health or social care work setting.
No Secrets – Guidance published by the Department of Health, builds upon the governments respects for human rights and highlights the need to protect vulnerable adults through effective multi-agency work.
Risk assessments should be carried out regularly to make sure that there are no safe guard threats towards the children in the setting. Childcare settings need risk assessing for example is there entrances and exits to the building that an unauthorised person could use? Could a child leave the setting without anyone noticing? Could a child get seriously hurt due to a broken piece of equipment?
They all were designed to cover the symptoms and signs of different types of abuse, financial, physical, sexual, institutional, etc. It also covered what staff should do if they suspect abuse of a service user, who to report it to, and the procedures to follow. Whilst I had undertaken similar courses before, they had always dealt with the subject from the point of view of dealing with children, I come from an education background, and I had never really considered that there were so many different types, particularly those of financial and institutional abuse. While I hope I will never encounter any suspected case of abuse, but if I did, I now know what actions to take.
2.1. There are many legislations relating to general health and safety in a health and social care work setting:
In every work place there should be policies set in place. These policies come from the law and make reference to the standard that is legally required in a health and social care setting. These include Fire Escape plans, Health and Safety policies and
