Unit summary
The purpose of this unit is to assess the learner’s knowledge, understanding and skills required to promote the professional duty to maintain the currency of knowledge and skills and the need to continually reflect on and improve practice.

You should establish what opportunities are available to you and where your strengths and weaknesses lie, in order to access appropriate training and development opportunities. By entering into discussion with your manager and asking for their advice, you will gain knowledge and feedback on your current practice. By goal sharing with your manager you can establish where you both see your future roles and responsibilities. When working in partnership with other organisations, sharing training opportunities, not only develops and bonds the partnership but also allows you to access extra, relevant training, which might not be available through your own organisation. 1.4 Explain factors to consider when selecting opportunities and activities for keeping knowledge and practice up to date It is necessary to ensure that any opportunities and activities are relevant for keeping your knowledge and practice up to date. You will need to consider and assess how relevant sources of support are and also the systems of support available, in relation to your personal, professional and organisational goals. There are subtle differences between personal and professional development. Personal development is about developing personal qualities and skills needed to live and work with others e.g. understanding, empathy, patience, self-respect, self-esteem, self-confidence and communication. Unit 2, 1.1, unit 3, 1.1,1.2,1.3- I have also learned and familiarised myself with different methods of assessment that can be used to assess competence and knowledge. They are namely: Observation of performance in the work environment and simulated environments- used in practical situation in work environment where a learner demonstrates their competence (natural performance) whilst learners are being observed. Simulation-this is similar to observation but a simulated activity is used rather than natural performance to assessed learners. Simulation is used when it has not been possible to carry out a task. Examining products of work- assesment is done on the culmination of learner 's training, e:g certificates, health and safety reports, memos, checklist for patiaent care, letters, charts. Questioning the learner, witness testimony: any other people who has been involved with the learner 's progress can write a statemen to show how the learner has successfully covered relevant aspects of the courset, learners ' personal statement: it is a reflective account where learners explains the thinking behind their decision to take certain approach or why they decided to change aspects of a task or activity ,

2.1 Evaluate prior learning and work-related experience to identify personal strength and weaknesses in self-development.
Learning and development is normally part of the appraisal system, but can also be offered and encouraged throughout the whole organisation. The main purpose of learning and development is to improve your standard of work. This can be in the form of training which can either be formal education or training on the job and can be an in-house training program or an external training course.
The ‘Thinking Performer’ also challenges what (s)he sees/does and thinks for him/her-self instead of blindly following orders. The situation may have changed which affects the usual way things are being done or why they are needed. (S)he looks beyond the results to why they are required and tries to make a positive difference to the organisation. Every organisation is a living organism and the HR professional should be a (pro)-active member rather than a follower. In the HR Professional Map this is represented by required behaviour such as ‘curious’, ‘courage to challenge’ and ‘personally credible’.
Within my role, it is important to continually improve knowledge and practice so I am aware of how to give the best diverse and equal care to children, stay fully up to date with all standards and legislations.

In my role it is important to continually improve my knowledge and practices. In health and social care ways of working and legislation as well as good practice are constantly changing. Therefore it is important to keep up to date with training and also any changes in legislation. This will enable me to deliver the best service possible to the tenants I support and also enables me to keep staff upto date with any changes in the way that we work. It also forms part of The codes of practice for social care workers to keep skills and knowledge up to date.
Reflective practice can be used by workers to enhance their performance and practice at work.

As a professional, I have a responsibility to engage in continuous professional development. This means taking action to keep my skills and knowledge up to date and seeking to improve your capabilities across the range of tasks I carry out daily.
1. Briefly explain how the CIPD HR Profession Map defines the HR profession, including the professional areas, the bands and the behaviours.
This assignment describes my own Professional Development Plan (PDP) for the first six months of my nurse registration. Following a PDP will show my commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), otherwise known as PREP (CPD). PREP stands for Post-Registration Education and Practice and is a set of Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and guidance that help nurses give the best possible care (NMC PREP Handbook 2006 p3); part of which is a commitment to CPD. CPD is a process of learning activities designed for individuals to reach their full potential, so they provide the highest possible standards of patients care (NMC PREP Handbook 2006 p9). Robinson, Dailey, Hughes, and Cotabish (2014) sought to discover the impact of teacher professional development, as well as, a problem-based curriculum on gifted, elementary student’s science achievement. The study compared two groups of students in grades second through fifth by placing them into a treatment group versus a comparison group. Over the course of a two-year period, STEM starters provided 120 hours of professional development to teachers in a problem-based, inquiry learning curriculum through 30 hours of summer workshops and 30 hours of sustained coaching during the school year. Teachers were presented the curriculum explicitly through experiencing the content as a student then received weekly coaching throughout the year (Robinson et al., 2014, pp.191-192). Moreover, the curriculum used with the treatment group focused on central scientific concepts at an advanced, higher-level with an emphasis on science-literacy.
