Like all leaps in technological advancement, the rise of artificial intelligence has instilled unease in the general public. People who fear change will attempt to obstruct or delay it and in some cases prove to be beneficial, however in the case of “AI”, regulation of its research is still premature. Currently the definition of AI is "that activity devoted to making machines intelligent, and intelligence is that quality that enables an entity to function appropriately and with foresight in its environment"(Etzioni), and although we have been able to create machinery to mimic such a function, the required “cognitive” ability still hasn’t been developed. In pop culture, AI is regarded as an evil force capable of destroying the world, like in the movie “Wargames” where the ethical of letting a smart system handle our military capabilities are tested, or more recently, one can look to the possible future grimly portrayed in the Terminator movies. Although AI hasn’t started to control our nuclear arsenal, there are still violations and challenges arising from current AI methods and applications, most notably, in the form of decreases in privacy and increases on the ongoing job losses due to automation and of work processes. This is where the ethical dilemma ensues, but nearly all work in ethics is normative, meaning that it argues how the world is understood, and subsequently how people should act. Most styles of ethical arguments implement one of three basic stances. Virtue
When someone brings up the term “artificial intelligence”, a variety of connotations tend to arise, connotations that often are unfair or unrepresentative of the true real-world applications of such a term. Due to the incidentally fear-mongering nature of the media, artificial intelligence can refer to something as basic as a robotic arm in a factory, as well as the implied extinction and/or enslavement of the human race as caused by robo-revolution. As of today, however, when applied in the world of modern technology, artificial intelligence is defined as any innovation that performs a task usually completed by humans. Of course, with this definition, artificial intelligence holds the potential for both societal harm and benefit, and its fate
Artificial Intelligence is a tool that must be properly utilized and regulated in order to avoid dangers and fully utilize it for global benefit. Artificial intelligence is the future. This is a fact. Since 2015, with the invention of deep learning methods, we, as a civilization are moving towards true AI. Artificial intelligence, depending on how its harnessed, could be a blessing, a curse, or both. On the upside, Artificial intelligence would allow us to achieve more than ever before. On the downside, however, Artificial intelligence could take away millions of jobs and possibly even develop its own set of goals. Some of these downsides can be solved through regulation and development, while other downsides are unavoidable, and inherent
Society today is greatly influenced by technology and the impact it has had within the past 20 years. One of the largest breakthroughs, though, is Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). The technology associated with A.I. has greatly developed in the past years, and is only making devices smarter. When someone mentions technology, or even the technological breakthroughs the world has gone through recently, many people go straight to smartphones and computers. A.I. is often overlooked, or put into a general category of "technology". Yet, artificial intelligence is something that should we not be so quick to dismiss, and should be something that gets people talking and even excited for what the future holds.
Throughout its history, artificial intelligence has always been a topic with much controversy. Should human intelligence be mimicked? If so, are there ethical bounds on what computers should be programmed to do? These are a couple of question that surround the artificial intelligence controversy. This paper will discuss the pros and cons of artificial intelligence so that you will be able to make an educated decision on the issue.
Artificial Intelligence is plagued with many moral issues ranging from roboethics, threat to privacy, threat to human dignity and many more. This paper will tackle the issue of machine ethics or machine morality. Machine ethics is defined as the field of research concerning the design of Artificial Moral Agents or AMAs for short. As artificial intelligence and robotics continue to evolve, the reality of advanced robotics making their own moral decisions is nearing. Wendell Wallach, a leading expert on ethical implications of artificial intelligence, proposes a scale of moral agents for all technology. The range entails everyday objects completely lacking agents to complete sentient robots with full moral agents. The scale exists on two planes,
Two words that we all think we know fairly well are the words ‘artificial’ and ‘intelligence’. When asked, people will suggest that ‘artificial’ can be defined as fake, phony, not real, or made-up. When asked what ‘intelligence’ means, people will suggest the word being defined as smart, having knowledge, or being capable of certain or many tasks. Though when these words are brought together, it becomes unclear as to what these words mean, and what it means for something to be “artificially intelligent.”
Therefore, what is AI, and why would we focus on the potential menace of this fast developing technology? As the article “Time to Regulate AI in the
To progress as a society, we must first look back at all the hardships faced throughout the years. We must look at the world leaders who were able to convince entire countries to eliminate millions of people different than themselves. We must understand the groups of extremists spreading terror and fear across the globe, and we must control people in power abusing their positions to benefit themselves and their agendas. Instead of ignoring these human mistakes, we must break them down and figure out how they could happen. Artificial Intelligence relies on our abilities to learn from our mistakes and mold our future in a way that will be beneficial and equal to all people. This paper will present the many benefits that A.I. will give
This essay will illustrate whether there are ethical issues in artificial intelligence (AI), facts and matters relate to the ethical arguments, classifying by using act utilitarian to compare the pros and cons as well as whether the net utility will boost or decline, utilizing two of the Kant’s categorical imperative rules to identify the ethical issues on AI, and lastly is estimating ethical summary why ethical issues is vital with the personal opinion.
On the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), one may suppose that an ethical foundation has already been lain in place. One may presume so based on how integral it has grown to our lives, developing a co-existence with our communications devices, such as in the case of Siri or Google Now in the iOS and Android ecosystems, respectively. Such is not the case, however, as the topic of ethics when developing and maintaining artificial intelligence systems is a hotly debated one. As it turns out, people have opposing viewpoints on what is considered ethical, and what is not so.
It’s no secret that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking over the world, to be as dramatic as possible. With technology getting so advanced, it’s now a whole different ball game than it was before when the first smartphone was created, and with that comes more cons than pros. Such as how will the wealth be distributed and who’s accountable for problems? One question that remains as technology gets more advanced is, “How would people distribute all of the money made by machines?”. More jobs are being taken by the use of advanced technology. Unfortunately, people no longer can work for money meaning the only ones that make money are the people behind the technology. It has always been that a person is supposed to get the education they need to get the job they desire, when they obtain a job they get paid for the work. Moreover, when a person gets paid, they use the money for various purposes and distribute the money back into the economy, then the cycle repeats itself. If there is no money, how will people pay for what they need? Money has always been a way to buy and sell goods and services. Another issue out of many that arises, is that as AI gets more advanced who is to blame if the program is prejudice, or does harm to a human, or even when they spiral out of control? Are the creators to blame? And if so, which one? The problem only gets worse as the programs become more advanced.

"Artificial intelligence is the future of mankind; whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world.” Many think of a paranoid doomsday theorist pressing the issue of how he or she believes one-day artificial intelligence may destroy humanity while reading the above quote. However, such remarks are not to be taken lightly when relayed by one of the world’s most influential men and leader of the second most powerful military on the planet. According to the June 15, 2017, CNN article “Who Putin thinks will rule the world”, Vladimir Putin relayed this ominous message on a live, nationwide broadcast in Moscow. Putin’s remarks are the first of such comments made by any world leader. The remarks immediately gained attention from tech insiders and politicians alike. Tesla and Space-X CEO Elon Musk tweeted that “China, Russia, soon all countries w strong computer science. Competition for AI superiority at national level most likely cause of WW3 imo.” In “A.I Summoning the Demon” the idea that if left unchecked, artificial intelligence may pose ethical and moral dilemma’s for mankind.
In discussions of, Artificial Intelligence (AI), one controversial issue has been that AI will start creating their own language that we humans cannot understand. On the one hand, many people argue that AI is better because AIs are much better for the medical on certain procedures. On the other hand people also oppose with replacing humans with AI because the jobs in the medical will all be ran by AIs. Others even question what happens if an incident occurs during surgery that the AI doesn't read something right, what would happen the human. My own view is that technology is a bad thing because we need a human who can see a mistake that robots might not even be able to see.
We are not sure that all the time human logics are perfect so that we are using AI to think as humans.
