The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is an adventure fiction novel filled with adventures and trials that will lead you to into the near distant future. In a place that was once known as United States of America, is now known as Panem, which is divided up in to twelve cruel districts. Forced by the nation’s capitol, one boy and one girl shall be chosen randomly to participate in the annual Hunger Games. Hunger Games, also known as the deathly journey when put in to an unknown place and requires you to fight until you are the last one standing. This may be seen as an enjoyable entertainment to those residing in the nations capitol; but to Katniss Everdeen, a courageous teenager, it is a death sentence that cannot be avoided.

Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, imagines a world where people are divided by district just like the real world does with the high, middle, low classes. This book is full of themes, literary devices and also talks about how the government — in this case the Capitol — oppresses their citizens.

Throughout the whole story of The Hunger Games, the author Suzanne Collins’ personal story plays a major role in the events of the annual hunger games, and is a great influence on the personality and development of the two tributes from District 12 and their struggle to survive in the cruel, harsh arena.

Firstly, “The Hunger Games” is set in a futuristic period where war and rebellion have caused a serious problem with the development of society (or its progress). Basically, in the Hunger Games Universe, both men and women are thrown into a situation where the success of their families and hereditary lineages is based solely off of social status. Even in the beginning of the movie, it is made clear that people from differing districts cannot simply make normal exchanges and social interactions with each other due to the cruel and brutal nature of the social bar that was raised extremely high off the bat. First off, the novel takes place in Penem, a make-believe future where the Capital is surrounded by districts. The Districts are like slaves to the Capital, give away resources to the Capital and only keep some resources to themselves; so you can imagine that the districts are very poor. The Capital also forces the districts to give up one boy and girl to go to annual Hunger Games, so to prevent War. Katniss, the main character in the book, ends up being part of the hunger games alongside with Peeta. Katniss then has to fight for her life because there may only be one victor. Lastly, throughout this book you’ll see conformity and civil disobedience play a huge role in the Hunger Games.

Reality television has differed throughout the years. At one point it was meant to be a literal depiction of everyday life. Now, reality television has changed to be more dramatic and outrageous than an average person or family’s life. The Hunger Games, in a way, depicts the lives of those who live in the poorer districts where the necessities for life are not in such abundance as in the Capitol. Although children are not forced to kill each other in the districts, there is still the struggle for one’s livelihood. That reality is depicted in the games and it seems that The Capitol takes that theme and develops it into The Hunger Games that we know and love. They use to plays that were wrote to be performed in the theater, and now they are mostly written to be performed in a movie or a television show. There are many dramas today that most people would not considered to be drama. Before reading the information in our text book, I thought drama was basically just a story or movie between people who had problems with each other; but that’s not completely true. Dramas can basically be anything that has a hero or dialogue to a certain extent. For this paper, I choose to write about the drama in the movie The Hunger Games. This movie is not just only drama, it is also adventure and sci-fi movie.

In the beginning, Katniss is living the hard life of her district. She goes to school and hunts so that her family has food. She has a younger sister named Prim and a mother, however it is time for the reaping which is when the Capitol picks names out of a bucket for one boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts to participate in the Hunger Games, a fight to the death tournament where the winner gets fame and fortune. Prim gets chosen to participate in the games, but Katniss volunteers to take her place(22). Peeta joins up with some Careers, children that trained for the Hunger Games all their lives, and tries to win but then he betrays them. The Gamemakers make a rule change and say that two tributes from the same district can win together so Katniss finds Peeta and helps him because he has been injured.
