The Odyssey movie and book had many differences and similarities. This story is very interesting and it was even more beautiful seeing it in a movie. I wish that the movie and book were more alike than they were. The book had way more detail than the book in my opinion. I'm gonna list some of the similarities and differences i noticed watching and reading this story. In the movie and the book Odysseus does a lot of the same thing. Odysseus is known to be a hero and to either win or lose. He usually has a victory, he is a very smart man who thinks everything through before going through with it. Victory motivates Odysseus. He wants to return home and live well in Ithaca. In the movie and book one of the things he does the …show more content…
In the movie she has 3 heads and no feet. In the movie she is very quiet and isnt as thrilling as she was described in the book. There was also no part where he had to choose between Scylla and Charybdis . Charybdis came right after her with a waterfall that lead right into her. Charybdis was also different she was more of a scary monster in the movie then described in the book. She looked like a big round hole. When they made these changes in the movie, it made us look at the men differently. The last big difference i saw was the scene with the Lotus Eaters. In the book, Odysseus and his men went to an island with Lotus Eaters while in the movie, the lotus blossoms were given by Circe. This made him and his men stay longer with Circe for five years. They had thought it had only been a couple days but Circe made it seem like that, so they wouldn't leave. That is also different from the book because in the book, Odysseus and his men only stayed with Circe for a year, not five years. I personally liked the movie better because i like adventurous movies and i like to see what others have to go through to get to where they wanna be. It was super interesting seeing how badly Odysseus fought and went through so much just so he could get home to his family. I also liked watching the movie more because i have to see things visually to understand what's actually going on. One of the best scenes would be the
Both men show willpower in realizing their goals. Odysseus's target is returning to Ithaca to his beloved wife and son. He overcomes many
While some of the events are not the same, a majority of the differences are tiny details. For example, in the book Socrates has a photo of Theresa, his ex-girlfriend, hanging in his kitchen by the window. In the picture, Theresa is wearing a red dress but in the movie she is in a white dress. The book also tells the reader that Socrates spent twenty-seven years in prison and was released eight years ago; in the movie; he only served eighteen years and had only been out for ten months.
The book and movie are completely different. It 's like comparing apples and oranges. (I 'm assuming that you used the newest version with Guy Pierce). The biggest difference is probably the ommision of Haydee and Maximillien and Valentine (three of the main character) and the addition of Jacapo. Jacapo does is in the book, but he is never a large character.
Contrasting characteristics of the two warriors are their innate dispositions. Odysseus can be characterized as distracted, intellectual, and self-reliant. In almost every situation Odysseus is put into, he is distracted by either a temptress or a task he must complete. His arrogance and self-confidence constantly got in the way. For example, when Odysseus is trying to save his men from Circe, he allows himself to get distracted by the seduction of Circe. Odysseus is definitely a warrior that is not solely focused on his ultimate goal, and although Odysseus may not be the strongest warrior, he certainly surpasses every other warrior of his time in battle strategy. He uses his intellect to the fullness of his ability and
During the beginning of the story Odysseus has to make an impactful decision while also maintaining bravery. In the Odyssey Odysseus does not want to leave his newly born son to fight in the war, but he has courage and leaves to do what he knows is right. After just becoming a father to his newly born son, Odysseus has to leave his
The biggest similarity between the book, and the movie is the theme. The theme in both the book, and the
When comparing the Odyssey and the movie, there are various points in which are very similar but not exactly accurate. For example, In the beginning of both the Odyssey and in the movie, Odysseus from the "Odyssey" and Everett from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" both are trying to find a way of trying to get home. However, they achieve their similar goals differently. Athena in Book 1 of the Odyssey appeals to Zeus for permission to help Odysseus to get back home in which is being overrun by suitors. Everett, on the contrary, escapes with Pete and Delmar who are attached to him with chains convincing them that he is going to split a treasure that he has hidden in a car that
In The Odyssey, Odysseus portrays an important trait to the story, perseverance. His perseverance really stands out as something that he has and always will have. On his long journey home, he never gives up and just stays where he is, no matter how tempting. He always manages to push through and keep getting closer to his goal of returning home. An example of when he does this is when he is faced with the challenge of getting past Skylla and Kharybdis. He knows that either path will kill at least some of his men and possibly him, but he knows he has to keep going. "And all this time,/ in travail,
Odysseus discovers more about himself through his self control, and lack thereof. While overall Odysseus’ goal to make
Let's begin with the most basic and obvious similarities, the movie and the book both begin with the same line " Sing in me O muse." The Greek name Odysseus translates to the name Ulysses in Latin. Odysseus's goal in the book is to
a hugely different time period and almost a completely different storyline. O Brother, Where art Thou? is a brilliant movie. It makes the movie so much more meaningful when you have read the book and can make the connections. In the beginning of the movie it says that its based on The Odyssey and with all of the appearances of similar characters and events, it would be extremely hard to write a three page paper on how O Brother, Where Art Thou? isn't based on The Odyssey. In regards to that, O Brother, Where Art Thou? is based on many of the characters and events of
Suspense is built in both cases, but we never get to see Odysseus’s heroism in the movie. Instead, we see courage as one of his men sacrifices himself to let his crewmen escape. When we watch the movie, we expect to see Odysseus be the last man to escape. Instead, we see him run out first. In conclusion, we do not have that much suspense when it comes to watching a movie based on a book we have read. However, sitting by the fire, and reading a book in the middle of the night builds up more suspense for us than sitting in the theater watching a movie.
Another difference is that Perseus had a sibling in the movie version and no siblings in the Greek story. Also, in the movie version, his family was killed but in the Greek tale, his family plays a big part in the whole thing being that they are the reason that he went to cut off Medusa’s head and they eventually become king and queen. In the Greek tale, Perseus meets a princess named Andromeda and they get married, but in the movie version Andromeda is not a love interest of Perseus’. As well as in the movie version the prophecy that Perseus is a part of is killing the Kraken, and in the Greek story, he is part of the prophecy stating that he will overthrow and kill his grandfather, King Acreseous. Perseus becomes king of Argos in the story version but in the movie he turns down becoming the king, and that is another difference. Even though the movie and the story are based on the same character, the two are fairly different from one
Another difference would be that in the Greek version Perseus kills his mother’s father. Yet another difference, in the movie Perseus is fighting for revenge on the god Hades. In the movie version Perseus has much help in order to slay the gorgon, medusa while in the Greek version, Perseus slays medusa without help from any other mortals. In the movie Perseus banishes Hades back to the
The first difference is that the myth begins in the ninth year of the ten year siege of Troy by the Greeks. On the other hand, the movie highlights how Helen is being taken away from Troy by Paris. This is a process that angers Menelaus. The Greeks sail through the Aegean Sea in ships in order to avenge against the Priam’s Kingdom and are assisted by Achilles. This is an event that leads to fighting which results in bloodshed. The myth ends in Hector’s funeral and this forms another major difference with the movie.
