BEEP...“Attention all students, after school practices are canceled for all sports.” As the loud speaker disconnected Sammy realized her ride home from cheer practice was her Aunt, and now she has to let her know that it has been cancelled before she drives half hour to come pick her up. Sammy reached for her phone but concluded that just yesterday cellphones were banned from school and permitted to be left at home. “Emma, I can’t contact my Aunt because I don’t have my phone with me. What do I do?” Sammy asked desperately. “Call off the teacher's phone, it’s for dire emergencies and this is one.” replied Emma as she looked up at the poster stating, “NO NEED FOR CELL PHONES, KEEP THEM AT HOME.” “I would, but I don’t remember her number.” …show more content…

The new school prohibited smartphones use and no student was allowed to have or use their smartphones during school time whether in class, hallway, or the cafeteria. This action took place after a couple of situations happened where students disrespected the teachers for not allowing them to use smart phones during class. The principal was forced by the situation to make a declaration that restricted the use of smartphones at anytime and anywhere within the school compound. Any use of the cellphone was disrespectful to teachers and necessary action was supposed to be taken to any student who violated that rule. School was a place to learn and every student was to take that time to study (Charles 8). However, with all the rules restricting students not to use their smartphones, and with all the security system that was designed to detect any student trying to sneak their phone into school, a lot of students still managed to get their phones into the school using other tack
Such as, if something bad has happened to a family member or an update on how grandma is doing in the hospital. Having a phone for instant communication will save children the hassle of not having to leave class to go down to the office to receive information from their parents. Not only can emergencies happen at home, but also at school. “ Schools get closed for various reasons, sometimes they’re natural disasters, or gun shootings which have actually become so common in most American schools” (Cell Phones Allowed In School). It can be a scary time if one is on a lockdown or an evacuation. Parents will be worried and want their child to keep them posted. Also, it is important text friends to make sure they are “okay” during this time if one cannot find them. Another emergency that may happen is if one needs to react quickly to an emergency in the classroom like calling 911. Aside from those types of emergencies, students may lie to their parents about where they are. In this case, Parents can use the Footprint App to track their children's locations, to know if they are at school or not. Next, athletes are constantly wondering what time their practice is at. Coaches are changing times and what days they practice, and this way if a practice time is changed or canceled, the coach can send the team a text. Texting needs to be kept to a minimum on phones, but it is necessary at certain times.
Nowadays, almost everyone has a way that connects them to other people, most commonly by having a cell phone. Cell phones have developed profoundly throughout the generations. They can be used for a variety of thing from business to education or simply for recreational use. As well as, in cases of an emergency. The use of cell phones by students should be allowed in school despite what schools agree with. With the proper guidelines, student should be able to use their phones by which will also respecting the school’s rules and restrictions for their use.
As for school/ class trips phones should be turned off at all times only to be used in an emergency to contact parents and or emergency services. Each
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
High school students should be granted mildly restricted access to their cell phones during the school year. Adults must exercise responsibility and self control in everyday life and the purpose of school is to educate and prepare students for life as an adult. Students have to spend a significant amount of their life in school, and cell phone access throughout high school will make school more enjoyable.
Another reason phones should be allowed in school because then you call for rides after or during school if you need to. If you have sporting events canceled you can call them to tell them that things
If the school caught on fire would you want to run back in the classroom to call the fire station or pull out a phone from your pocket. Students should be allowed to have a phone in their pocket or in their backpack in case of an emergency. Many students forget the phone numbers in their contacts. Sometimes phone numbers are long and hard to remember. What if a school phone didn’t work and the class was in a lockdown.
Many people believe that bringing phones to school may cause distractions. However, a recent study has led more and more people to believe that phones could in fact be a powerful learning tool and also serve as a mobile computer. This is why individuals believe that phones should be allowed in school. The first reason for this is in case there is an emergency in the school. The second reason for this is Cell phones would eliminate the need for students to carry calculators and maybe even textbooks if available online. The final reason is so students can use their devices as a learning tool.
When students get bored or don’t feel like doing the assignment they turn to their phones to help them escape from boredom. Then later the homework comes or tests that they don’t understand and fail because one was not paying attention when it was being explained. A student with a phone during class becomes distracted and would rather worry about who said what on Twitter then one’s own education. Some students wonder why they struggle. Well, this is obviously one of the causes. At the end of the term students often fail their classes and would drop out of school (Cassidy). Parents think cell phones are a way to contact students in the time of an emergency, but when was the last time that one genuinely called for immediate phone calls to a child. If a parent urgently needed to contact their child they could call the main
Call 911! If someone is in an emergency, no one wouldn’t go to look for a pay phone on a street in this era. Even if they looked for, it would be extremely hard to get one. Cell phone is the item which one person has at least one now. When I found myself in the middle school, I got my first cell phone, and it wasn’t that everyone has. In fact, none of my friend had one, therefore, there were no rules of cell phone use on the campus. At the time, the cell phone was only for the call. We weren’t able to play games or search online. But the situation is not really same in this environment anymore since all teens have their own cell phone with them all the time. Some schools completely ban cell phone on campus, and they will take away from them if they find them. My high school was one of them. If teachers found students used cell phone, they took away and called us after school. Some teachers didn’t give them back to students, then they called their parents to pick it up. Banning cell phone in schools for teens is unfit in this high technology era since we are not be able to find a pay phone on the streets anymore.
Whether or not students should be permitted to carry their cell phones to school has been one of the most hotly debated issues in recent times. Personally, I am of the opinion that students should not be allowed to carry their phones to school. It is important to note that in recent times, quite a number of learning institutions have
Do you every wonder what children do at school with their phones? There are lots of conflicts at school involving students with their phone. Students will get their cellular device taken away if they have them out during learning periods. Pupils are gorilla glued to their phones. Many school across North America have issues with phones. Will students learn not to have their phones out during school? Students should worry about their phones being taken away and concentrate on their work. Phones are bad for school and can be used to do horrible things by students.
Today was the day for the last finals, and I was already running late for school. I looked into my bag for my ID, which I need to get into school. I started to freak out. I pulled out my phone to call my mom, thank the lord she answered or else I wouldn't be able to go on to my next grade. Imagine if I wouldn't have had my phone that day? I would be retaking that class and my parents would be extremely angry with me. So what if? What if phones were banned from schools and I wouldn't be able to call my parents for emergencies, or use my phone for necessary reasons? This is why I think that cell phones should not be banned from schools, because they can keep students safe, helping with good grades, and notes.
Second of all, students can use them in urgent situation. A common reason for parents to buy their children phones is so they can use them as a source of connection in an emergency. When a teacher takes the students phone it defeats the purpose and safety of having a phone especially in the parents eyes. Although it's not the parents fault for buying their student an item against school policy the teachers should realize why the children have them in the first place. In an online survey taken by debate.org the results showed that 84 percent of participants believed mobile devices are useful in emergency situations. This
