Riordan Information Systems
Corporations are at their heart a means of creating wealth for their owners or shareholders. Success creates wealth; this creates competition as others seek to capitalize on the market. The emergence of new companies into the market begins a cycle of competition. Evaluation of staffing forces companies to find new and more efficient ways of producing their products while lowering cost to increase profit. This is because the cost of personnel is the largest line item of expense within the corporate budget (BusinessTown.com, 2010).
Corporations can reduce staffing costs by automating repetitive tasks or using tools that create efficiency beyond human capabilities. The large number of applications

The company owns an ERP package specifically designed for the plastics manufacturing process. Evaluation of this software product is essential to ensure the ability to handle the operations in Georgia, Michigan, and China to meet Riordan’s needs for scalability. A new ERP package research will be accessible should the current product prove incapable of meeting Riordan’s needs.
Riordan Manufacturing will need to create a project plan for the ERP rollout to the company. Piloting the software at Michigan, Georgia, and China may necessitate purchase of additional hardware to provide service to the three locations. The distance between locations requires evaluation of software response. Determination of this evaluation dictates whether the server infrastructure will be throughout the company or maintained in the San Jose office. Upon completion of the ERP pilot phase and testing completed, loading information from the current finance and accounting information from and decommissioning of the old systems will commence.
The adoption of the ERP software package throughout the enterprise will have a positive effect on the company. Through the elimination of data conversions and manual data reentry, the company can significantly reduce the time it takes to complete the monthly General Ledger, Income Statement, and Balance Sheet reports. The adoption of a single system instead of three will save Riordan money by reducing the IT staffing needs as it
The University of Massachusetts suffered a major ERP failure in 2003. The university had begun work on the $10 million dollar project in 2000 as a replacement for the older ERP system (Rico, 2010). Under the previous system, each of the five University of Massachusetts’s campuses had its own systems that included the software, hardware, and project teams. Each was independently ran, modified, and maintained by its respected campus. The University of Massachusetts identified the need for a centralized ERP system that could standardize the many processes within it across all the campuses.
In our quest to ever better ourselves the IT department, of Riordan Manufacturing, is submitting this Request for Proposal to integrate a more sophisticated, state-of-the art, information systems technology in our Human Resources department. Riordan Manufacturing has always strived to better ourselves by keeping up with technology in all of our operating systems and our manufacturing systems. Our goal is to remain at the forefront of the manufacturing community as we keep leading the way in all of our business systems and, at the same time, keeping the feel of a customer friendly company. We want to make
Our company needs to be installing a latest and advanced ERP system which makes us fully utilizing the business resources in the most efficient manner. Currently, the existing information system does not provide the full, accurate and reliable information from one department to another, neither it’s a cross-platform for information sharing(Columbus, 2014). A less-efficient information system is contributing into increasing cost of production for the business and overall reducing the business efficiency. The inventory turnover is increasing over the time period and so the productivity of staff unable to work at their optimum level. The current information system does not cover the whole business process and rather employees are engaged in manual data recording and preparing the documents to back the data.
Riordan manufacturing has requested its information technology areas of telecommunication and network s he focus is on security and efficiency that Riordan manufacturing has encountered. The System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method includes analysis needs and availability of
Riordan Manufacturing is seeking a new system that will consolidate all of their Human Resource related data. Currently, the data that will be a part of the new system is spread out through different departments of the company. The new system will allow this data to be saved in a central location, while only allowing viewing access to certain employees. The access will be much the same as currently in place, but located in a single system. Lastly, the implementation of the new system will be not be a quick process, because it would be safer the company completes a test run to few end users before completely releasing the system.
The current process takes too many hours to complete the required tasks, so the new updated system must be fast and efficient. All of Riordan Enterprise's locations will move to the new accounting and inventory system; therefore, it must also comply with the existing technology. "Companies are recognizing that not only is the aftermarket profitable, but it also can drive significant competitive advantage as a customer-service differentiator" (Kevin O'Brian 2005)
Mr. Hugh McCauley, the COO of Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. has submitted a service request SR-rm-004. This request is to analyze the current Human Resources system and to integrate the existing variety of tools used today into a single integrated application at all plant locations. Mr. McCauley would like to take advantage of a more sophisticated, state-of-the-art, information technology system for the Human Resources department. The IT team will examine the current information system and the possible design and development of a single integrated application that meets or exceeds Riordan Manufacturing’s expectations, reaches completion within time and cost estimates, works effectively and efficiently in the current and planned IT
VINSUN has decided to adopt an ERP solution that the company determined will be the best resolution to help them in better management of their valuable data with the integration feature of ERP. There are 3 alternatives that the company is considering based on the pros and cons of each of the programs, given that functionality and cost-effectiveness are the main focusing components, followed by ease of use, security and risk, and records of successful implementation.
By implementing a new ERP system such as Lawson, Riordan will be able to improve deliveries for both receiving raw materials and delivering finished product to their customers. Lawson offers such improvements such as:
This report is going to highlight the major events over the history of the MeadWestvaco Corporation. It particularly demonstrates how the MeadWestvaco used information systems to bring together the companies Mead and Westvaco into one integrated company and further explains the detailed implantation of ERP along with the related issues and challenges.
The Riordan Industries corporate office has been performing a research project to consolidate their financial processes and production software packages. Not one of the three offices or corporate use the same system, which makes data collection, verification, and reporting difficult at best. They need to have a uniform business system throughout all the facilities, as well as procedures implemented in order to attain this goal of seamless data collection they are hoping to achieve. The customer will need to upgrade all their hardware in addition to their current software packages.
In general, ERP systems are designed to standardize information entry and create data storage for information sharing across the organization. There are numerous advantages of ERP but skeptics argued on the fact that these advantages can be also achieved by simplification and lean production methods. IT systems could be effective and reliable in the long run but at the same time there is an uncertainty about whether it will align with the concerned business process. For instance, the ERP system implemented at the Korey plant to replace MRP system failed. Though it met the requirements of individual unit and enabled employees with wide range of
The Rolls-Royce is a large aero engine manufacturer company that implemented various operational strategies to improve and meet their market demands. However, it was some time after the acquisition of Allison Engine Company (total new market for the company – USA) that forced the company to search for new internal management operational approach. The overall motive was to obtain a new structure which would allow the company to focus more on manufacturing engines and less on internal management operations and decision making. In effort to meet the market demands, the company sought an operation system more adequate to the type of organization. Henceforth, the Rolls-Royce Company embraced the ERP system. Yusuf, et al. (2004), stated that the ERP “aims to integrate business processes [such as manufacturing, finance, procurement and distribution] through the support of an integrated computer information system [connected by interfaces]” (Yusuf, el al 2004, pp 252). Another initiative of the organization was to have external outsourcing company; EDS Company to assist in the implementation of the new system. The main focus was to establish connection and integration amongst all areas of the company’s operation.
Another benefit companies receive from using an ERP is standardized processes and consistent data. This is important in the energy sector and the oil and gas industry because it allows the business to move rapidly to new markets as well as adjust workloads among offices. (Anderson et al., 119) an ERP system will provide managers with pertinent and timely information on when assets need to be replaced among others which will improve the quality of their decisions. (Anderson et al. 119)
