It helps an individual to acknowledge his/her beliefs, and how to reach out to other family members, and how to ask the community for additional support. Resilienceshows you how to cope with unexpected factors that might occur during daily living or during the process of you trying to reach your goals in a positive manner. Unfortunately, most families are successful through their family hardship.
Resilience is defined by ways of functioning through challenging situation. The resilience has been explained to being conceptual, which is expressed as how an individual or family continue the journey with obstacles. Several meaning of resilience is still being explored on the nature of resilience. This research has great demand according to today’s factors and influences that people come in contact with. The participants are all women of diverse race such as Latino, African American, and Caucasian. These group of people where chosen based on the number of percentage of each diversity group that live in the poverty location. During the ninety minutes audio tape interview, several questions were asked to identify reason for resilience. Some of the participants talk about no role model present in the family, no access or no idea to the resources available in the community, and the culture belief of each group was identify during the interviews. The structure of the family is discovering when the participants discussed their support system and how they solve issues, and how to be proactive in situation that requires more effort. Nevertheless, communication was not mention as much as I thought it would be because it was listed as one of three key elements of the
Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from difficulties. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie and his dad did not have the best relationship in the beginning, but at the end of their very long journey they were inseparable. In the book Boy In the Boat by Daniel James Brown Joe did not really have a family until he made the rowing team, and until he met Joyce who would later become his wife and they would start a family. Human resilience is affected by family in both of these books.
People have learned to be resilient in order to overcome serious hardships. A person’s resilience can be seen through how they handle bad experiences; to be resilient in the face of adversity. People who never give up and always fight back even when it gets hard are resilient. Some believe that resilience is a trait that can be learned.
One must wonder how a person with Steve’s shocking childhood could grow into a man who is successful, not only in his career but in his personal life as well. Resilience theory is a possible explanation as to why Steve survived, despite the odds that were stacked against him. Resilience theory is a strength based approach which provides a framework that focuses on positive outcomes and not just the negative ones. The idea is that it promotes what works best while de-emphasizing psychopathology. Resilience theory defines resilience and possesses several key terms, which include protective/risk factors. Research on resilience has been valuable in directing attention toward youth who succeed in spite of high levels of stress and economic instability, as it identifies factors that can serve as protective functions which foster competence.
Resilience is about how an individual deals, resists, recovers and learns from adversity’s in life. If a child is resilient they are less likely to be damaged as a result of negative experiences and are more likely to learn from and move on. In order for a child to be resilient they need to believe in themselves and have others they can rely on in their lives.
Everyday in the United States there are families who struggle to make ends meet and struggle to fully provide for their families. Since the 1960s, poverty in the United States has only increased dramatically. It is said that one in six Americans today is living in poverty (What is poverty?). In this book, we learn about different families and their struggles. The information in this book describe instances about welfare, different areas of the population where there are more occurrences of poverty, and a few different families experiences of how they make it day by day to survive. Some of these common organizations that help families that live in poverty may include, food stamps, certain food programs (if
On the other hand some factors work against one’s resiliency such as an absence of a parent, violence, and abuse. Being resilient is an ability learned throughout a person’s life and experiences. It cannot be taught but must be
Resilience is about being independent, standing on your own two feet or taking back the power.
There are varieties of definitions in regards with resilience based on different perspectives (Arrington et al., 2000). For instance, from a developmental perspective, resilience can be defined as positive and successful outcomes despite challenging situations (Masten, 2007; Windle, 2010). Resilience can also be defined as recovery to normal functioning from adversity or coping well under currently risk conditions (Masten, 2007; Windle, 2010). However, not every language has the word “resilience”. For example, a phrase, “the ability to cope with adversity” (Ungar et al.,
The purpose of this paper is to define the concept of resilience using Wilson’s concept analysis. Wilsons method was developed expressly for students to develop the abiity to “gain skills in answering questions of a conceptual nature.” (Walker & Advant 2011, p. 55) The process he developed provides the necessary structure for the development of a concept without being overly laborious in process. It is meant to assist the user in “clear thinking and communitcation”. (2011, p. 55). It uses the process of question isolation: deciding on a concept to address, finding right answers or researching meaning of the concept to be investigated, example cases in which this paper will only identify a model case, social context in which the concept
Resilience is defined as, “the ability to become strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happens” (Merriam Webster par 1). Resilience is shown when people use their strength when dealing with adversity. When people are experiencing negative circumstances resilience may lead to positive outcomes (PBS Par 1).
Resilience is a term that is often applied to those who have faced hardship and viewed the experience in a positive light as an opportunity to grow and change for the better (Wagnild & Collins, 2009). The definition however seems to vary from place to place. Ungar et al. (2008) stated “definitions of resilience are ambiguous when viewed across cultures" (p.174) which is why the understanding of resilience may be difficult to capture (as cited in Windle, Bennett & Noyes, 2011). Although the literature agrees on several common themes about resilience there are many varying opinions on how to define the concept or the attributing factors. Earvolino-Ramirez (2007) and
Scholars define resilience as the outcome of successful adaptation to adversity (Zutra, Hall, & Murray, 2010). Resilience is the ability to recover from adversities challenges in a manner that leaves an individual more flexible and better able to meet future challenges. Resilience involves an ability to react creatively and constructively to change while recognizing that change is an ongoing part of life (Mikail, 2014). Zutra and Hall identify two core dimensions of resilience:
When I heard a term called resilience, I have no idea about it and think that it is not related to me. After I had a lecture with a topic resilience. I realize it is necessary and I need to face many adversity in my life. Also, I remember something happened in my past are shown my resilience level. I would like to share the story in my life to show the factors which are indicated in the last part can show resilience level.
It is also a key factor affecting resilience. A positive, supportive and cohesive family relationship can promote our resiliency. Relatives are the important props to support us when we are experiencing adversity.
There are several key processes discussed in the Family Resilience chapter, in the text, such as the family belief system, organizational patterns, and communication. These processes help the family deal with stress, adjust to changes, and learn ways to cope with difficult situations. Within these processes, there is a framework, which focuses on family resilience. This family resilience framework emphasizes the families’ ability to adapt/adjust to significant influences and/or situations (Walsh, 2016).
