Pi Day Event

A lot of research went into the plan for the Pi day event. In addition to online research, our team went into the community to directly ask teachers about their experiences with technology in education. The information collected will help in tailoring the Pi day event to best help students. We conducted this research in the form of a online survey and a personal interview. To get information that could be used to plan our event, we based our research on technology and how it is used in K-12 education. Our data was specifically collected from the Wilmington area to get relevant information for our location.

Mr. Kelly has 26 years of teaching experience in multiple science topics. We interviewed Mr. Kelly to collect data to help plan for a 2018 Pi day event. The main goal of this interview was to discover how technology is used by teachers and how it impacts students. The interview consisted of four questions covering technology in the classroom. The information collected in the interview can be used to help K-12 education in our local area. A copy of the interview questions can be found in Appendix.

The first set of questions were used to see what technology teachers use and how often they use them. The seven different devices that were surveyed are computers, smart boards, mobile devices, tablets/iPads, digital cameras, clickers, and televisions/projectors. Each device was rated based on use either daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or never. Using this data we can see which devices are used most and least by teachers. These charts also show us which devises teachers and students are most familiar with in the classroom. The most significant statistic from this first set of questions is that 91% of teachers use computers daily and weekly in the classroom (Fig.
