A lot of research went into the plan for the Pi day event. In addition to online research, our team went into the community to directly ask teachers about their experiences with technology in education. The information collected will help in tailoring the Pi day event to best help students. We conducted this research in the form of a online survey and a personal interview. To get information that could be used to plan our event, we based our research on technology and how it is used in K-12 education. Our data was specifically collected from the Wilmington area to get relevant information for our location.

Mr. Kelly has 26 years of teaching experience in multiple science topics. We interviewed Mr. Kelly to collect data to help plan for a 2018 Pi day event. The main goal of this interview was to discover how technology is used by teachers and how it impacts students. The interview consisted of four questions covering technology in the classroom. The information collected in the interview can be used to help K-12 education in our local area. A copy of the interview questions can be found in Appendix.
The first set of questions were used to see what technology teachers use and how often they use them. The seven different devices that were surveyed are computers, smart boards, mobile devices, tablets/iPads, digital cameras, clickers, and televisions/projectors. Each device was rated based on use either daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or never. Using this data we can see which devices are used most and least by teachers. These charts also show us which devises teachers and students are most familiar with in the classroom. The most significant statistic from this first set of questions is that 91% of teachers use computers daily and weekly in the classroom (Fig.
Technology has been around for decades and has been improving and developing ever since. Currently, the school board is debating whether or not the students and the staff should participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week.” This is a national movement where nobody may use any electronic media for an entire week. In our generation now, modern technology is simplifying our lives to make it easier and better. This is the reason why it is almost everywhere. It is in homes, in our work, and in our schools. Although some individuals might argue that too much technology is bad for us, we should not participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week,” because technology is able to help children become more interested in learning, can improve student’s skills, and it can also make work for teachers easier.
The use of technology in the classroom is an important tool to utilize as an educator. Technology allows for educators to have instant access to a plethora of resources that would not be available if technology was not used in the classroom. Teachers have the ability to plan lessons, create presentations, and have interactive games for students to use as a learning tool through the use of different digital devices. Technology in the classroom is important for teachers, parents, and students alike, because technology use has become a necessary skill for survival in today’s vastly expanding technology driven global economy. Research has shown an increase in student’s success rates when exposed to technology in the classroom. Also technology has opened lines of communication between educators and parents to keep students on track, and help teachers educate better.
This paper is a personal technology plan that includes my personal philosophy on integrating technology in the classroom as well as my professional goals concerning technology in the classroom. Society is becoming more reliant upon technology every day. Technology is found in hospitals, banks, grocery stores, homes, and schools across the nation. As technology becomes more prevalent in the classroom, teachers need to learn how to use it effectively. Differentiating instruction, facilitating learning, enhancing communication, and facilitating instruction are all appropriate ways to use technology in the classroom (Standards for Teachers). Once these types of technology are mastered, student performance, creativity, and thirst for knowledge should begin to increase.
Hernando County has a technology initiative; however, within the each classroom it can be hard to obtain, due to lack of technology. Within Challenger K8 most classrooms have about 2 working computers in the elementary grade levels. In middle school there are classrooms with no computers. We have 5 computer labs that can be scheduled for daily use and then scheduled for testing. Through our community partners the school has received 4 smart boards, and an iMac Lab. Our media person just received a grant for a class set of ipads. Some teacher have bought there own for students to utilize within the class. Hernando County also provided a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy for schools to use at their discretion. The middle school uses BYOD on a daily bases for informal formative assessments, games, and engagement. McAllen school district in Texas recently spent twenty million dollars on I-pads and I-pods for students. The funding for the school district is coming from a combination of local funds, federal grants, and stimulus money. The schools in that area are considered some of the poorest in the nation(Ryan Holeywell). In schools around the world the students are starting to use technology in the classroom such as I-Pads, I-Phones, and other types of devices. Technology has changed Students day to day life, it has modified how and what students are taught negatively and positively.
The plan should guide the LEA’s use of education technology for the next three years.
Technology is everywhere, it is involved in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With technology being such a fundamental part of our lives and growing each day, it only makes sense that schools incorporate technology in the classrooms. Even though many people support the use of technology in schools, there are those that have concerns about the effectiveness of technology and whether or not it undermines education to solely prepare students for the workforce. Despite the concerns, technology is being integrated with classroom lessons daily, and proving how beneficial it is for student success.
This qualitative, narrative case study has two assumptions. First, the interview will accurately generate teachers’ technology attitudes through questioning the nature of the problem using a case study approach. Second, teacher participants will provide truthful responses to the in-depth, open ended interview. The initial limitations of this study will be the limited time frame for data collection. Further, involvement of and response from the participating teachers will be limited to just K-3rd grade teachers in 1 rural Southeast Georgia district instead of administrators, students, parents, pre-school, intermediate, middle and high school.
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, and we can research any desired topic on our smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today’s schools has been utterly momentous. Educators have now seen firsthand the numerous benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators have come to the conclusion that technology has a positive impact on the education process. Educators have also recognized the significance of developing these technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate (Cox). Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many things for us in today’s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have access to many different sources and various types of learning.
The complex social and historical foundations of education are rooted in the need to create a population of citizens capable of contributing to the continuing economic and political stability of our nation. First we were an agricultural society, then industrial, and now we are educating students for futures with that are yet unknown (explainvisualthinking, 2007). The new dynamic, created by the recent and rapid expansion of technology driven globalization has created the compelling need for technology infused education in our schools (Friedman, 2005). As an educational technology leader, I collaborate with other educators and families to create technology initiatives that will support educational technology in our schools.
