My Personal Short-Term Academic Goals

The last two years have been extremely busy. While in the program, I worked full-time and went back to school to complete my bachelor’s degree. I am proud to share that on May 6th, I will walk across the stage to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Lindenwood University.

My first short term goal is to graduate from Kent State University in the fall of 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Business administration in Business Management and a minor in Human Resource Management. In 2014, I completed both my CCAF degree in Aerospace Ground Maintenance but also completed my AS in computer Science from Richland Community College in Decatur IL. Just last year I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a 3.79 GPA from Averett University in Danville, VA. I was also invited to become a member of the Sigma Beta Delta honor society for business students who graduate from business school in the top 10% of their class. I was inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta honor society in October of 2015.

I plan to graduate in May 2017 with honors. My goal after graduation is to find a job working at a graphic design firm and also freelance in hopes of opening my own small business one day. My philosophy is in order to have more I must to do more; therefore I have to take advantage of every opportunity. When doing more than what is expected I believe I will eventually be rewarded. I am very determined that in ten years from now I will have a successful business. I am a self-motivated individual with the ability to adapt quickly. My relevant qualifications include my pursuit of a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems. I expect to graduate in December 2016. I currently hold a Work Study position for the Office of Veterans Affairs. In my current role, I assist veterans and their dependents with certification of educational benefits for veterans while maintaining educational enrollment information. I ensure student’s academic progress is in accordance with state and federal regulations and guidelines, to ensure compliance with the Veterans Affairs policies.

Throughout my life experience, I have gained skills that have guided me to pursue a graduate degree in Communication Science. I strongly believe being goal-oriented, self-motivated, and a critical thinker leads me to this challenging but rewarding career. In addition, having compassion, respecting others, being consisted, and having interpersonal skills will help motivate my potential classmates. Although I posses these essential skills, I believe overall consistency plays an important role in my life choices.

Lastly, I plan to obtain my associate's degree for my third life goal. The target date for this purpose is Dec 15, 2018. This goal is vital to me, with my degree I'll be able to apply for jobs within my career field. My degree also has the potential to increase my finances as well as developing my reasoning and communication skills. When I decided to attend Howard University I was undecided as to my major and my career field. I worried that without a set plan I may not perform as well academically so I set certain academic goals to work towards as I determined my career path. I changed my major first to political science, and then settled on public relations major with a political science minor. The goal I planned to work towards from the beginning is to graduate with honors achieving a 3.8 cumulative GPA. My second academic goal is to attend one of the top 15 law schools once I graduate. The most prestigious la firms tend to mainly hire from these schools and the intent behind my academic goals is to begin my career as quickly and successfully as possible.

I always desired to learn the most I can in various subjects. My goals in life are vast and strikingly different. Receiving an education that would limit my pursuits to one career path is not my ideal education. I plan to work in a setting that focuses around adolescents, either in an alcohol and drug facility or an organization that deals with promoting healthier life styles and habits. I have given much thought about my education and career goals.
