As they continue down and endless road the cat springs free from the hiding place in which the grandmother placed it, which causes Bailey to loose control and wreck. While sitting on the side of the road a car with 3 men pulled over one the grandmother stupidly introduces him to everyone as The Misfit. One by one each person is taken to the woods and shot while the grandmother tries to spare her life with The Misfit. Suddenly with the threat of death near her door she suddenly tries to be something she is not. She sympathizes with him and tries to relate to him. All of this comes to no avail if anything it antagonizes him which throws a switch in his mind and he reacts the only way he knows how, by shooting her in the chest and putting his problem to an end.

Meg finally began to trust the three W’s. Meg soon faced another conflict. Her, Charles Wallace and Calvin met IT. IT wanted Charles Wallace to let IT inside his mind. Meg wouldn’t allow it. She was very protective over her brother you could say. She loved Charles Wallace with all her heart and didn’t want Charles to go inside IT because she didn’t know if she would ever get him back, even if it was to save her father. Meg was scared of the things she did not know. She didn’t like the idea of not knowing. Charles Wallace went inside IT while Meg and Calvin were held down by guards.

Living in a falling apart house, the family rarely has electricity and they have no running water or heat. Struck by a hard reality, the older children realize the only way to achieve a stable life is to move away from their parents. They begin saving as much money as they can until eventually the oldest child, Lori, moves to New York City. She finds a job and the children try to save more money so they can all eventually move to the city. Ultimately, all of the kids are together again in New York City and life is good.

The hurricane in Florida had cause Miranda and her mom to move to St.Yvette with Miranda’s aunt and the grandfather she never knew. Going to school the following day Miranda gets paired up with five other people to do a project. The group she is put into is the first people she met when she got to school. Getting upset she realize that they are so different from her group of friends back when she was in Florida. In the end she they all become best friends.

Adam tells Charles that they could go travel but hears Cathy covered in blood and dirt. They decide to take her in and clean her up. They call a docter and find out she is badly injured. When they arrived Mama and Kirst went inside, Annemarie and Ellen went for a walk. They walked down a path where they saw a cat that was eyeing them out. When they reached the ocean Ellen told Annemarie how she and never been to the proper ocean, only the harbour because her mum was afraid of the big sea and that it was to cold. She soon opens the creaky door who reveals frightened Marlee sitting in a boxy chair in the corner.
