Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Law and order special victims unit is one of the best shows because it allows victims to be heard and helps start conversations that will help to provide more information and encourage victims and bystanders to speak up.

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and an American police procedural crime show that is set in New York City. Many of the episodes are loosely based on real crimes found in the news that have created a lot of attention. The Special Victims Unit is portrayed as a new elite squad of NYPD detectives who investigate sexually related crimes and crimes involving women and children. This police drama was originally set to follow the detectives, Elliot Stabler and his partner Olivia Benson as they are portrayed as seasoned detectives that have seen it all and have had difficult past which motivate them to solve crime.

On February 9, 2011, at approximately 7:15 AM, I, GBI Special Agent Abigail Wilkes, arrived at 293 Stone Road to process a crime scene involving two deaths. When I arrived, the crime scene was secured with yellow tape. I met with Deputy Sheriff Ray Chandler. Chandler told me that the two victims, Steve Campbell and Sherry Campbell, had two gunshot wounds each. Sherry Campbell died in the master bedroom of the residence, but emergency medical services (EMS) took Steve Campbell from the scene. Chandler informed that the EMS personnel entered the residence through the front door and placed Steve Campbell on a stretcher. Steve Campbell 's injuries created a blood drip trail when he was transported to the ambulance. The drip trail began in the master bedroom, went through the hallway, out of the front door, and into the yard of the residence. Steve Campbell died on the way to the hospital.

Massachusetts was founded on the ideal that all citizens are equal in the eyes of the Law. Without the Massachusetts State Police and their 149 years of experience our beloved state would be overrun by criminal offenders. As of 2014 the Massachusetts statewide crime rate was on average 25.59%. Violent Crime being about 4.06 % of the average, and Property Crime being about 21.53% of the average. The Massachusetts State Police is an agency apart of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ E.O.P.S. (Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.) The Massachusetts State Police are responsible for criminal law enforcement, along with traffic vehicle regulation across the Commonwealth. As of 2014 it has approximately 2,300 Officers, and out of 2,300 1,500 of these officers are uniformed troopers. 400 of these officers are civilian support staff which make the Massachusetts State Police the largest Law Enforcement agency in New England. Currently the Massachusetts State Police is under the command of Colonel Timothy Alben.

Before 9/11, law enforcement possessed the primary responsibility for combating terrorism in the United States. Law enforcement relationships and responsibilities have continued to be evaluated and redefined at all levels of government. They will evolve because of the continuous changing nature of terrorist threats, prevention needs and transforming operations and strategies. Terrorist groups continue to advance and pose threats in new ways each day. In the fourteen years since the worst terrorist attack on United States territory, citizens have undoubtedly become more cautious and accustomed to the inconveniences that result from the precautions and added security law enforcement agencies are now having to provide.

In my Special Topics in Geography course, the instructor Dr. Hilburn had assigned my peers and I to do a map of anything that interests us by applying all the skills and knowledge that we have learned during the semester. During my research of opting of what should I do my map about I focused myself within the study field in which I am majoring so, I started researching anything that is related to the criminal justice field. A key factor that helped me determined what should the topic of my map focus on was the notion that I live in a border town that is next to Mexico.
