One of Americas best drama television shows is Law and Order SVU (Special Victims Unit). This show was first aired in the year 1999 and is currently 16 years old. This show presently has 17 seasons and is still in production today. The overall plot of this show is based on a specific unit called SVU, whom deals with the most obscene cases. During the one hour show many exciting events happen and it constantly maintained a state of arousal. Anyone interested in this show can watch it on two different stations, the USA channel and the KDOC channel. It appears at around diner time and is available till about nine at night. If you have never seen Law and Order SVU, it is rated 8 out of 10 stars on IMDB(Internet Movie Data Base) and it is definitely worth giving it a try.

The UCR is not fully seen as an accurate source of crime calculation for various reasons. One main reason is the underreporting of crime done by both the officers and victims.

America focuses on keeping the rich streets clean and the poor streets dirty with a sense of people of color will be placed in poor dangerous neighborhoods with violence and drugs. The news reporters every day file cases of police officers using their power to control and abuse the law by hurting citizens by their image of clothing and color of their skin. Most television crime shows feature cases that are loosely based on real life crimes. There may be a disclaimer presented at the beginning or end of the show that says it’s fictional and not based on real life characters or events but If you keep up with the news or read crime statistics, you hear about very similar events that are happening in real life. I watched two shows, one was Criminal Minds and the other was Law & Order SVU. I observed the race and gender of the people involved in the stories.

As a child growing up until now I’ve always been infatuated with TV shows such as Criminal Minds and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Even though my mother objected to my sitting and watching the tube for an hour instead of doing something ‘worthwhile’, watching these TV shows has developed my mind to see the inside of a person and not only what they want me to see. Whereas my mother, and many parents like her, feel that watching TV kills the mind, for me, watching these particular shows has developed my sense of curiosity. Different teachers and adults with power have always said “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” so why waste mine?
