Honors Program Application Essay

The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. I am interested in continuing my educational journey in the University Honors Program at CSULB because I see it as a way to effectively enhance my undergraduate experience with its opportunities. I have been able to improve and continue to excel and improve in my studies and I think I can pursue a great education in this program. I will achieve my vision of helping others in the world. I have been adamant in enrolling in a nursing program that I will excell in.

National Honor Society truly is a honor to be accepted into. National Honor Society represents scholarship, leadership, service, and character. I believe since I was young I have shown compassion and leadership needed in our society. That is why this is the right society for me.

Volunteering, in minor or significant ways, taught me that I could make an impact in the world and along the way build my character, experience the world, and develop better communication skills. I learned this at my local library, Fumo Family Branch. I aspire to become a part of the National Honors Society because I want to network with my peers and people outside of the Academy at Palumbo, improve my character and leadership skills, and give back to my community. I strongly believe that I am a great candidate because I possess the four pillars of the National Honors Society: scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

It is unbelievable that I have been selected to potentially become an NHS member. As I look back on the last two and a half years of my high school career, I realize there have been many times that I could have given up on trying to achieve my academic goals. I have had opportunities to cheat and lie my way through it, but as a meticulous student chose to do my very best the honest way. I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average, so I am an incredibly hard-working student. I promise to continue to work hard in order to keep getting straight A’s and that is only one reason I should be chosen to be an official member of the National Honor Society.

Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.

I’m a determined person who believes there are no limits to the possibilities in our education. Since I was little, the challenge always passion me, and entering Nation Honor Society, has been a commitment over the past years in my school life.

List other skills, training, and experience you have that will be useful in an engineering research internship position. Although my research career has just begun, I have accumulated a strong background in several research fields and more importantly have developed a strong research foundation. In the past two semesters I have gained valuable research experience by participating in the Honors Program at the College of San Mateo. As a member of the Honors program I attend seminars on ways to conduct scholarly research and interdisciplinary learning.

During my freshmen year, I was a Residential Honors Student. I had to give it up because at the spring 2015, series of earthquakes devastated Nepal and it made a huge financial impact in my family. Therefore, my family who had financially supporting for my studies in US, could not afford me living in an honors residential hall for two years which was one of the requirements of the honors student. Hence, when I received an offer to be a Resident Adviser, I chose what was best for me at the moment, to hold on going to college in a much more affordable financial decision. Although, it has almost been a year, the aftershocks of the earthquake still shakes Nepal, which has not built any stronger financial stability in my family. Thus, this scholarship

I would love to be to be apart of the Honors College at UIC because of the opportunities the program offers. I am seeking an academic challenge and I would love to participate in extra-curricular opportunities through the program as well. I would like to be surrounded by peers on my academic level with similar goals and interests. I would be a great candidate for the Honors College because I am a leader and a hard worker with a positive attitude to accept new challenges.

As a member in multiple volunteer groups, I not only wanted to help, but to also understand the people I worked with. Whether this meant writing holiday cards in Spanish, teaching robotics to elementary students, or performing at food kitchens and senior homes, I strove to comprehend their experiences and environments - to broaden my views of the world. At Penn, I plan to broaden my perspectives by participating in pre-health organizations like Penn Pre-Medical Association and volunteering through opportunities found at the Civic House or the Netter Center for Community

Beating at the heart of the Southern Oregon Honors College community lies a close-knit community that focuses on deeper discussions between students and a student-interest driven content with programs like Take the Lead Projects and Pick and Choose Activities. Small communities, like the honors college, have been a major part of my life since middle school. This is one of the major reasons why I want to be a part of the honors college community. I want to immerse myself in an intellectual space where people take responsibility for their actions and communicate with others in an honest, compassionate way while in a small-scale setting. I think a lot of successful communities do this. When members are comfortable being open about what they want from their community and communicate that in an empathetic way, a deeper bond is created and people can delve into their creativity more because they do not fear judgment.

Recently, I challenged myself to ski the lone double-black diamond at my local mountain. While this may seem enterprising in and of itself, it was a distinct challenge on this day owing to the fact that it was my first time back on skis in nearly three years. Up until then, depression had thwarted me from enjoying my preferred winter pastime. At the crest of the slope, I peered over the precipice and knew it would be strenuous, that my legs could give out, but I went for it anyway. My run happened to be a messy one and I did indeed fall, but how else would I get back into skiing shape and improve if I didn’t first try?

At a very young age, I made it a goal of mine to volunteer at a different organization every summer. Since the summer of seventh grade I have accumulated near 500 community service hours. I have matured, gained responsibility, and my work ethic has only strengthened from participating in Improvement Committees, Hospital Secretary, Camp Counselor, set design and application of theatrical make up and much more. I have been accepted into 7 different clubs and organizations, not counting earning the title of Vice President of National Beta from 2015-2017.

If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
