Gothic Art history started many years ago. Nomads were a group of people who move from place to place to find shelter and food to survive. As the years went on they found more ways to improve to survive. This bought on a higher need for survival and personal stability of group. The first form of architecture were post and lintel, this was a basic need. Architecture evolved to be more sophisticated and fulfill the people’s needs. Consequently, Architecture evolved throughout different periods such as: Ancient architecture, Romanesque, The medieval, Renaissance, Early modern, and the industrial age, Modernism and Contemporary architecture. Now days, some of the main concepts are being taken and applied to modern buildings such as the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels, also known as the Cathedral of Los Angeles. It was design by the Spanish Architect José Rafael Moneo (1937-present). In 1996, he was appointing to design the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. One of the designing challenges that Moneo had to face was to reflect the diversity of the Catholic Church in the United States, rather that recreate some of the traditional designs from the middle ages in Europe such as the Gothic Style. Emotional concept was used in this gothic architecture. The interior of Cathedral of our lady of angels induced many religious and emotional responses. Inspired by themes of light and journey of the faithful, the architect chose natural light to flood the Cathedral through clarified windows. The opening of the Cathedral opens in a circle and the interior leads to the light of the nave. Another remarkable part of this is that the freeway which is a key and spiritual feature because of the fountain of water from the catholic religion which relates to life. People often sit by this water and look out the window at the freeway and gives a spiritual healing because can only see the cars and hear the water. The park plaza hotel building is a design by “ Benevoleant and Protective Order of Elks. “. This building structure had a brass sculpture in the grand entrance. Elks sold this building due to no attendance which then it were transformed to a luxury hotel. This building was build in 1923 by Curlett & Beelmann their architectural styles were Art-deco. In 1983 this building was named a historic landmark and a cultural monument. This building can be seen from blocks away which makes it more dominant as the original gothic architecture in history. The building has “gargoyles” that symbolize as protection over the building. Inside there are ribbed vaults that are seen in the main lobby. The building also has Doric columns, which are important element inside the building. Marble and stone were also strong components that made up of this structure also. The gothic architecture in this building was solified by taking light and adjusts the physical features.
