The goal of the Civil Rights Movement was to give African Americans the same rights as Whites. During this time period blacks and whites were segregated. The Civil Rights Movement during the 1960’s aimed at the equal opportunities for blacks. The blacks not only wanted political freedom, but also hoped to gain social freedom as well. On top of that, blacks wanted to end segregation. The Civil Rights Movement involved many events that would later lead to equality and freedom, the goal for the blacks.

During the civil rights movement, individuals and organizations challenged segregation and discrimination with a variety of activities, including protest marches, boycotts, and refusal to abide by segregation laws. Some believe that the movement began with the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955 and ended with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, there is still however some debate about when it began and whether it has ended yet. The Civil Rights Movement of the United States in the 1950’s and 1960’s, was to end discrimination and racial segregation against African Americans. The African Americans wanted protection of their citizenships by the federal government. The Civil Rights Movement’s mission was to end segregation and advance equality for African Americans (Hanks, Herzog, and Goetzman). Almost one hundred years after the civil war, African Americans were still struggling to gain the same rights as white Americans. The movement was led by leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. Gaining momentum in the 1950’s with the Supreme court’s ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education where public schools were desegregated, the Civil Rights movement flourished in the 1960’s. One of the group’s main goals was to take on the Jim Crow South. Segregation prevented African Americans from drinking out of the same water fountain, using the same restroom, and even sitting at the same lunch table as white people. By promoting peaceful protest, they were able to educate others on their issues.

The civil rights movement occurred between mid- 1950s to late 1960s to achieve civil rights, equal opportunity in employment, housing, and education, as well a right to vote, and public facilities. In 1909, the NAACP had the most influence to fight for equality for colored people. Another group that believed in fighting for African American rights were the “Black Panthers” as known as the Black Power movement. The Black Panthers were an African American group that fought for African American rights.

The civil rights movement’s goal was to drastically alter the social and political handling of African Americans in America. To end Jim crow laws (preventing blacks from voting), to end segregation, end inequality to schooling, etc. They also aimed to change the American attitude towards blacks. This was no easy feat.

On September 11, 2001, America as we know it changed forever. We were attacked on our own soil for the first time since the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Our country thought we were safe from terrorist attacks due to the oceans that separated us. We discovered on that horror-filled day that we were extremely incorrect. Our own resources were used against us in those atrocious acts of terrorism. America was transformed from the numerous consequences that came from 9/11. Despite the attacks, the leaders and our nation came together for support and comfort.

The Civil Rights movement occurred from 1954 to 1965, in a time of great change. The Civil Rights movement had a lot of dissention, with different groups and people using different approaches to achieve the common goal of gaining rights for African Americans that were being denied to them. Outside of the Civil Rights movement there were those who actively opposed the movement and tried their best to see its goals not come to fruition. Some of those who opposed the movement’s goals were George C. Wallace, those part of the Southern Declaration of Integration, and everyday people and police officers. Some of the black leaders who were part of the Civil Rights movement were Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Stokely Carmichael.

The Civil Rights Movement as we know it started in 1945 due to the end of the second World War. After the racial atrocities carried out by the Nazis killing over 6 million Jews it showed how far racial abuse can be taken and convinced many people that racism should be opposed in all circumstances. Every four years, Americans go to the polls and vote. Experts say approximately 23% of America have unregistered voters. Voting is vital. Every single vote counts on election day. The Presidential Election brings out the most Americans. Democratic and Republican parties go head to head in the race to become the nation’s president. In 2008, the presidential hopeful will be Barack Obama. He will provide citizens with affordable healthcare insurance. Obama will give tax breaks to the working class and improve the education systems.

The ulterior motive of the Civil Rights Movement was to suppress segregation, race-induced violent acts, and depriving people of enfranchisement rights. The Civil Rights Movement ended with the Supreme Court disbanding the Jim Crow Laws and the Separate-But-Equal principle in 1954. I believe that the Civil Rights Movement achieved the initial goal of freedom for African-Americans during the 1900’s. From Rosa Parks, to Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.; these people fought in name of freedom for African-Americans. The Civil Rights Movement had a lot going on between 1954 and 1964. While there were some successful aspects of the movement, there were some failures as well. The mixture of successes and failures led to the extension of the movement and eventually a more equal American society.
