Education is an important part of life even for people who are already educated, but education never ends. As a matter of fact, intelligence is constantly increasing, so educated people should not waste such educations with unnecessary leisure activities like watching television when a person can continually improve his or her education. In today’s culture, an educated person should spend more time reading than watching television because reading builds the reader’s vocabulary and reinforces the prior knowledge of particular terminology, but watching television requires no active thinking. Challenging the mind is one of the greatest ways to improve it, so reading at higher levels, regardless of age or education status, will build the vocabulary of a reader, thus making the reader a more knowledgeable person. When a reader stumbles across an unfamiliar word in a sentence, he or she may use context clues to figure out the meaning of the word, or this person could simply look up the word in a dictionary or similar source. Seeing unfamiliar words challenges a reader’s mind because each word is introduced multiple times in order to define it: once when reading the sentence the first time, twice after reading it the second time, three times in order to look up the word, and four times when the reader uses the word’s definition in place of the term in the sentence. These re-introductions build a reader’s vocabulary which is important because having a stronger vocabulary allows a
Reading can provide many benefits to the reader. One of those benefits is the expansion of the reader’s vocabulary. The more a reader reads, the broader the reader’s vocabulary.
Education is one of the most important parts of growing up and profoundly affects the lives of all children. Education sets a foundation for the child’s knowledge, beliefs, morals, and social skills for the rest of his life. If a child has a solid education he will grow up and be able to make decisions to benefit himself and also the rest of society. Education is not only learning in school, but also a life-changing transformation.
The vital importance of how education works in our country needs to be centered around the best interest of the students. The more the curriculum is designed towards the close relationship to the individual student, the better the child will receive information and preform. The education in the United States is continuing to decline, and the only way for it to improve is if a drastic change is made. What change is needed? Well, if there are other countries that are excelling, then taking a look at the structure of their education system can help our country mold a new style of knowledge development.
The benefits of education can never be stolen from you, but can help you grow and evolve. Aside from leading you to better job opportunities, education will also make you surround yourself with people that will push you to become your best self. Education is also the hope most blue-collar and poor minority have to improve their future and create a better one for their kids. It is also the key to a better and brighter mindset. I intend to discuss the significance of post-secondary education and summarize the arguments of authors and their points of view. I will also reflect on the importance of education and how it will fit into my future, for example attending a four-year university and getting my bachelor's degree to pursue my dream of becoming independent and having something that will lead me to a brighter future and mindset.
The way you grow up directly affects how successful you are in the future. Many parents can’t provide as much to their children to give them the necessities they need for school, medical care, and even the basic needs. When it comes down to it, the way a kid is taken care of shapes who they are as a person and their development in this world.
Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.” This quote provides a positive definition of the functions of an education. True education isn’t defined by the ability to remember words and numbers; it's defined by the ability to think, with character - and I completely agree. This has been the goal of the American people for a long time. Even when coming from a foundation of poverty, many people have been able to rise up from rags and become filled with riches because of an education. But many haven’t been so lucky. For some, a lack of education is a barrier of success. Due to poverty, those who are in the lower-class aren’t always provided with the motivation or the means to succeed academically. Not only that, but in some cases, education isn’t of enough importance for those who don’t have the same opportunities as those who have an educational privilege. In some cases, being raised in a low-income area could be an exposure to a considerably “bad” education, due to low funding and reduced resources for an education. Although having an education provides more opportunities for success and an end to ignorance, it is often blocked by poverty, poor academic success, and poor teaching; poor teaching can have negative influence to a person's' education.
Why school? Throughout life, we always tend to wonder whether or not having an education is beneficial and can end up leading to a life of success. As students, we always search for the deliverance that will help us to answer this question. When we are young, we view school as a place to meet new people and a place that we go to have fun. But once we grow out of this stage, we wonder what the true reasoning behind education actually is. We as students tend to outgrow the day to day lifestyle of forcing ourselves out of bed every morning to go to a place we have no idea to interpret what we are learning and how to apply it to our lives. We are lost, and this guidance that we are in search of, comes from educators who believe that school is
I was driving to an art performance on a Friday night with my eight-year-old daughter strapped in the backseat, and we were talking about where I was going once she was dropped off at her friend’s house. I explained to her that there had been several hurricanes that left the island of Puerto Rico in need of resources and help, and that the money raised at the event that night was going to will help aid the effort. She proceeded to ask questions about the topic: “Where was the island? What did the hurricanes do? Were people hurt?” She had numerous other follow-up questions about the country and its link to ours. Our conversation led me to question what I knew about Puerto Rico as I stumbled to give the place a label for her. Was it a
For generations my family has devoted their lives to actual survival and finding contentment. As Armenians, we have struggled through genocide and economical devastation. My family’s lives were focused on their livelihood as human beings. Survival was their first priority and thus education was not really an issue. For my grandparents, it was not even possible to attend school in any form. When my family chose to come to the US, they gave my brother and me the most amazing gift, the opportunity to gain a real education. I was given the chance to not have to struggle with attaining the best education possible. The struggles my family faced helped me realize that education is a true privilege. My family’s lack of education helps me
Education is a goal-oriented process during which people acquire knowledge and skills. It gives them an opportunity to obtain some desirable results from such knowledge assimilation in the future. Education increases the chances of a person to having a successful career and a secure life. According to Freeman Hrabowski in his article “Colleges Prepare People for Life,” “Yes, colleges prepare people for jobs, but more critically, they prepare people for life” (260). Some people could argue that there are a lot of wealthy or even rich people who do not have higher education. It is true. However, experts with the necessary knowledge are coming to the forefront nowadays, and it is very difficult to get this knowledge without education.
Education is a very important life goal to many people, I do not people believe that a lot of individuals would disagree with this statement. As one goes through school they may face several obstacles to overcome. It is vital that parents, educators, and other caregivers that play a significant role in a child’s life. A child needs of these people to help them in their educational goals from birth to adulthood. Early childhood inclusion means the standards, policies, and implements that provision the accuracy of infants and young children families, regardless of skills, to take part in a wide-ranging actions and settings as full participants of people, groups, and culture. (DEC/NAEYC, 2009). I believe that if everyone works together following these guidelines all children will have a successful education. We as educators have to find strategies to use in the classroom for the meet the diversity of all children. For example, disability, foreign, minorities and any other child. In this paper, I will discuss strategies, suggestions and adjustments that is a part of the early childhood inclusion.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” While they are indeed wise words, what does it mean to be educated? What can be classified as a proper education? Some say college is where people go for a “real” education. College is an educational institution meant to further prepare a student for the real world, real jobs, and real life. Instead of the basics taught in elementary, middle and high school, college is meant to be more specialized. Because students have the liberty to pick and choose their own classes it’s easier to cater to their needs, thus allowing each and every student the chance to work towards their future profession. But is what is currently being taught at
On Wednesdays, I was the only visitor for Jorge, an elderly patient in the AIDS and Tropical Disease Ward at Carlos III Hospital in Madrid. A native of Equatorial Guinea, Jorge had full blown AIDS and had been living in Spain illegally because, according to Jorge, his country lacked enough resources and trained doctors to provide an adequate level of treatment. Over several weeks I witnessed his losing battle, not only with a terminal illness but also with cultural incongruence and a continual feeling of unease, thousands of miles away from home. Talking with Jorge during my experience as a volunteer for the NGO Soldarios Para el Desarollo in the fall of 2001, led me to question the justice of health care discrepancies that make it so
Education was an important part of society. Since the Cold War and the Soviet Union’s successful launch of Sputnik in October of 1957, improvements of education was necessary. In the 1960’s, John F. Kennedy developed proposals to ensure the American education system were competitive with students all around the world. His proposals were to ensure that every race, and religion would receive a good education. However, not every child was receiving the same education opportunities based on money issues surrounding them and the minority they were classified as, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was to ensure that these issues would be dissolve.
My name is X Y; I was born in 1986 in Bangladesh, a small country with a rich cultural heritage. The most fundamental part of my life was spent in Bangladesh with my mother and her side of the family, while my father was away in United States. The only sibling I have is my sister, who is currently happily married. I am a 24-year-old student, aspiring to join X Y College. Education is an essential part of my life as it presents me with skills towards gaining knowledge; it instills values of proper conduct as per societal norms; and provides me with the necessary technical expertise to bring about the desired societal change in future (Mills, 2000). Although my life has been ridden with many challenges so far, I plan to overcome them one at a time someday. My primary goal is to excel in school, both to obtain a better future and to make my parents proud. While employing C.Wright Mills’ idea that sociology describes the intersection between history and biography, I will reflect on the problems that I have faced in my biographical background that are connected to the social institutions and in the large part to the social culture located in history
